2009 I had an ovarian cyst removed and the surgeon discovered I had a partially twisted bowel, which did not show up on tests/films. The pain was horrible. Since November 15, I have been experiencing nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea (often green and ribbon shaped), and have lost 16 pounds because of nausea and vomiting. I spent four days in the hospital recently and then was sent home and told further tests need to be run. I have had several surgeries over the years and have had severe endometriosis, adhesions, and scar tissue removed with each emergency surgery. I asked about surgery this past hospital stay (which is first since 2009), because the symptoms came out of nowhere but was told that would not be needed. How do you get doctors to listen when all they want to do is schedule more visits and test independent of each other? I don't have a money tree! Oh, and I had urine retention for almost 8 days (prior, during and after hospital stay) and now that the nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea is back I am having to self cath to void completely. Help. I do not know what to do! – I am not made of money and the test they now want to do they could have easily been done in the hospital! Note: I am on two different nausea medications: ondansetron and Phenergan, and have a script for Tylenol 3 & one for Tylenol 4 – but was told they could make the urine retention worse.

Hello Lauren! …and welcome to the chronic pain forum!

Sorry that you are dealing with these health issues and suffering so much there! One thing you may do is simply bring attention the fact that you are without insurance to this Dr. I'm not sure what test need to be run for a twisted bowel and what needs to be done to fix it, but if indeed you are without insurance, I would certainly let them know about it.

Welcome to our chronic pain forum. Glad you found us but sorry you are hurting so much.

Hope you will keep posting with us and let us know how you are doing. I am sure others will be along with suggestions for you. I assume you are in the states and I know insurance works differently there than in Canada. I live in Ontario.

Hi Lauren! I can kinda relate to you. I had my 2nd small bowel resection on oct. 2nd. They had to fix it from where I had the first one 14 yrs ago-it had ballooned out so they cut out that area & resected it back together. He also cut out a bunch of adhesions from previous surgeries(also had a hysterectomy in 2001). He said I had severe adhesions all over. I was having bouts of the same symptoms u r experiencing now- severe abdom pain, nausea & vomiting, green stools, ribbon stools & diarrhea...I looked up on web about green bm's & it says its due to things going way too fast thru your bowels which causes your body to not absorb nutrients from your food, which in turn causes weight loss & vitamin deficiencies. I was anemic at one point. I was in hosp. a few times with partial bowel obstruction b4 surgery. Since my sx I STILL am having bouts of severe pain & green stools. So now they think Crohn's cause my c-scans show inflammation. On my way to GI for further help. What tests have they done so far?

I don't have insurance either but when I was in hospital(which was quite a few times) they did an abdominal series test where u have to drink white stuff, also did an endoscopy test. I have been to the ER so many times they know me now!!

sorry you need to be here. you certainly have your plate full right now, i feel bad for you.

with your urinary retention issues, do they at least have you on a catheter for now? i am the guy that
had spent a total of 1 1/2 years on 21 different caths, because of strictures and retention issues after my prostate cancer surgery, so i feel for you.

a catheter isnt the most pleasant thing, but sure beats major retention and having to make trips to the ER to have a cath put in when your poor bladder is maxed out and screaming with pain.

hope you get some answers, and better yet, some solutions to your issues very quickly, that is way too much to deal with

Wish I could post more, but in terrible migraine right now. If you are still losing weight please ask you doc about Megace. It has worked wonders for my appetite after a total hysterectomy left me with severe pain.
