Pelvic floor dysfunction / chronic pain in rectum

Hi everyone,

I'm a Finnish 21-year-old woman and I've been suffering from chronic pain since the summer of 2009. For the first two years I had a terrible pain in my bladder even though there were some short periods now and then when I felt quite OK. Then the pain slowly disappeared, but some months later I started feeling discomfort in my rectum. This discomfort slowly turned into pain and now I've had this terrible and constant pain in my rectum for over a year. I have maybe one or two days a month when I feel a bit better but let alone that I'm in pain all the single moment. It's so hard. Doctors have never understood what's wrong with me. I also have a twin sister and she has had pain in her bladder for about 5 years now. We have suffered and we are suffering so much for our pains.

I've been done all the possible examinations, physiotherapy, I've tried so many pain killers and even homeopathics and acupuncture. I also tried a very strict elimination diet without any result for 3 months.

Recently I found the website of the international pelvic pain research in California and I really think I suffer from Levator any syndrome or at least some other type of pelvic floor dysfunction. The doctors in Finland have never even mentioned me about these things, that's all so little known.

Now I've been going to a canadian chiropractist since he really thinks my problems are muscle related and believes he could help me. I'm also going to the US at the end of this month.

Is there anyone with somekind of pelvic floor pain? I would like to chat with people sharing these kinds of problems. It's very hard to live with this pain.

Your symptoms do sound like some sort of pelvic floor dysfunction. I too have suffered for about a year and a half with pain and burning in the bladder and rectum. I have been receiving physical therapy for a little over a year now and it definitely is helping. I just recently went out to the pelvic pain clinic you reference in California. He has also trained someone in Europe on his techniques and they may be a better option for you. I don't remember exactly where they are (Holland, perhaps?).

Moderator (straydog) - Thanks but sorry to hear about the censorship concerns. I am not a paid advocate for any particular doctor (actually quite the opposite). Hopefully someone else will be able to help your members that meets up to your terms and conditions. I will not contribute further.

i'm sorry 2 hear about all your pain and problems in the pelvic area. i DO have severe pelvic floor dysfunction and trauma and rectocele (for the 2nd x). i've had 7 kids and my problems started from there. in 2010, my colon tore thru the vaginal wall and my colon, vagina and bladder fell out of my body damaging everything. i live with this pain everyday and have tried everything 2 help with the pain. i'm on a certain med that does help a little with the bladder pain, and its the only thing that helps my bladder pain. Other pain meds have all failed. Living with this daily can be unbearable and unless a person has lived with it they don't understand. if you ever need 2 chat my email address is under the members part. Pelvic Floor Dysfunction/Trauma, Bipolar 2, BPD, PTSD, OCD, Anxiety/Depression, i pretty much have the full recipe...Lol   And too many meds to list.
