aggravated with the pm office and pharmacy

Tried to fill my script for my pain meds at the pharmacy on thursday told me I couldnt fill them til 21st cause I filled the script from the os on feb 8th which I didnt have a problem with because had left over meds from the os . Come to find out the pharmacy wont fill the hydrocodone at all til they get the ok from the pm office cause they say they cant tell if the hydrocodone is for the liquid or pills. I have been playing phone tag with the pm office since friday. Pharmacist told me they have sent pm several faxes for clarification on the hyrdrocodone but no response. Finally yesterday afternoon after all the dr's went home nurse from pm called and said she couldnt have the dr call the pharmacy til tommorrow cause all the dr's went home. I just hope the dr office and pharmacy can get it together so they can fill my script before im out of the ones the os gave me. For clarification the pm knows I had pain meds from the os and was told finally yesterday afternoon to take what the os prescribed til they can deal with the pharmacy.the nurse sounded aggravated that they had to even call the pharmacy.

The pharmacy said they are questioning it cause it says 15 ml on it but dont say if its the suspension or pills. I agree I think it's the pharmacy is giving me a runaround. my take is when I saw the script its 90 loratabs 7.5/500 tablets. The pm upped my med to 3 times a day.

so sorry KSD that you are having a problem with that. it would be stressful to me just because of the unknown or i guess the what ifs. like what if its not fixed in time.

not only that but for most of us chronic pain patients it makes us have to keep relying on someone to go back and forth to the pharmacy. i already feel bed when it takes up all my husbands days off taking me for procedures or any of my other appt.. he says it doesnt matter he just enjoys spending time together.

i know one time i had went to get my meds filled at kroger because thats where i have to go due to insurance. it was two days early because we were flying out the next day to florida. in florida there arent any kroger stores and my fentanyl patches at that time was like 12mcg. that doseage at the time was hard to find. no pharmacy in my area of georgia within a 50 mile radius carried them. i was afraid it would be that way in florida.

well the pharmacy said no i cant fill this because it hasnt been 30 days. i said yes i understand that but im going out of townand we are going where there is not a kroger. i said thats why my pain management put my fill date as of today. they have known for three months now and thats why i had my appt. a few days early this month.

she said well im gonna have to call the doctor. well i had already went into panic mode because the plane tickets were purchased and the hotel deposit was non-refundable. i kept saying to them that i had always went by the fill date that the doc put on there. i dont do anything im not suppose to. she said well according to the computer you should have two patches left. i said i do and i took them out of my purse and showed her.

by now im getting really pissed because they seemed to be treating me like i was doing something wrong.i have never asked for anything early. so they called the doctor and the doc said it was ok without even pulling my chart. i have been going there for 5 years and had never asked for anything early. they still would not let me get it because the it had not been 30 days and they didnt have to fill it even if the doc said yes.

so since i had gotten upset and raised my voice a little,because i couldnt understand if the doc put my fill date for that day why i couldnt get it, they refused and would only let me get it one day early. so i had to change my flight from the morning to that night.

what it was, i would drop the prescriptions off on my way home from the doc office and go back and pick them up on whatever day i ran out of meds. well they were going ahead and filling them when i dropped them off instead of waiting until they were due. thats why it looked like i was getting them early every month. that acted snotty because i kinda got upset because i had never done anything wrong. making me come back the next day was their way of making me suffer because i got upset.

from then on the next couple of monthes when i took my meds to drop them off.... i would say i need to drop these off and i will pick them up in a few days. they would say ok let me see if we will have the patches in stock... then another lady would come tell me.. well you are gonna have to come back on the due date today is too early.they acted really ugly.. even though i had just said i would be back on a different day.
it was paying back for getting upset. needless to say i get all my meds filled at the store my husbands manages now. so, the other store lost tons of money a month when we left from there and transfered everything over.

people just dont have compassion. thats the one and only time that i have ever been treated like a druggie..

its gotten to where many of the stores here in ga. dont carry many,if any of the class 2 meds. my husband said that like at the store he works at they dont stock them because of the cost and because of the economy they try to keep the inventory down. i have a problem finding my meds every month. its gotten to where i dread it.

anyway sorry to ramble own. i just wanted to let you know i know how you feel and i pray they get it straightened out.

Not really I run out on saturday cause I called the os like you suggested and they told me to take 3 a day like the pm prescribed til I could fill the script from the pm. So did the pharmacy told me to take 3 a day before this mix up. so I have been taking 3 a day since friday when the os returned my call and told me to take 3 a day like pm prescribed. @ ga peach im also using a kroger pharmacy in georgia. I never had a problem with them til I got back on narcotics. I think the pharmacist doesnt know what she was doing cause the nurse even told me yesterday she was looking at the copy of my script and it said it was for the tablets not the liquid.

Oh...I didn't realize that you spoke with the OS...that is very unusual for them to change the prescription after the fact...

But again, thankfully you have enough until Sat. and they said they would fill this prescription on Thursday....So things should work out by then or even Friday at the latest....

And just so you know as you haven't been in PM for quite awhile...but a Pharmacist cannot give you permission to take more of a medication....It has to be from the Dr. who does it....You have to be careful to keep perfect notes with all of this because opiates are highly monitored.

If worse comes to worse, you can just drive and pick up a new prescription from the PM or they can call in a new one to the Pharmacy if this one is just too messed up.

Just for future reference, even if there HAD been a krogers in FL, you would not have been able to take the script from GA and gotten it filled in FL. Narcotics/Opiates just don't transfer state lines well.

Especially now. A few years ago it was possible in some cases but definitely not anymore.

LexiRae, im glad you let me know about the meds not being filled across state lines anymore. my fill date used to fall every year on a date that we were in florida every summer. that was back before i had gastric bypass and had to go on the fentanyl. i was on oxy contin then and i want to say percocet for bt pain. the way it worked every summer was my pm doc would write all 11 prescriptions and i would get it filled at cvs either in orlando, daytona or fort walton each time. i havent had to do that in several years. thank you for letting me know that before i got there and had to turn around and come back. lol

The only way a narcotic or benzodiazepine can be filled in a state other then the one it was written in is if the Dr has a license to practice in the state as well.

You should always know if your Dr has multiple licenses as they could be sanctioned in one state and not in another. Info you would want to know.


What I would do is take the script back to the Dr that wrote it since for whatever reasons they are not responding to the pharmacy. That doesn't make since either,generally it doesn't take the Dr to clarify the script and anyone that looks at your chart can tell the pharmacy what he intended for you to take. It will say in his progress notes as well a copy of the scripts going to be there as well,that's the protocol for narcotic scripts.

Thats good! Coming up on the weekend fast and cant get anything done then.

I still say it should never take them that long to figure out something as simple as liquid or pills. Sheesh what is all of their problems,not like you were trying to fill oxy-c or fent. It was a simple order and should have been a simple matter to fix.
