Hi everyone, Im receiving iv sedation for my lesi next friday . I was wondering if anyone know the ball park cost of iv sedation? Hope everyone is having a low pain day.

I was thinking that you have insurance...As long as your Dr. is saying it's necessary and part of the procedure then I would think that the way he "codes" it for the insurance company it shouldn't cost you anything more than the co-pay for your appt.

It also depends on whether the Dr. means giving you valium beforehand, or actual twilight sedation.

I would think that you can just call the Drs. office and ask them as well as speak with your insurance company to make sure it will be covered for this procedure and if there is any extra cost to you.

As I've mentioned on the other posts...I didn't need any sedation for an ESI....and if it costs a lot of money that you can't afford, the Dr. should be able to do the procedure without it.

I do have insurance but they only cover 200 dollars of it. I have been trying for 2 days now to contact the dr's office they wont call me back. Im the type of person that would jump off the table when a needle is going in my spinal canal. I will definetely need sedation.

They could easily just prescribe you a Valium to take beforehand which would relax you as you are already having someone drive you home.

They will also be numbing up the area before they do the injection so you don't even see the needle as you will be lying on your stomach.

Anyway...just sharing a possible way around it as if your insurance isn't going to cover it, it could be quite expensive.

My understanding is if it's twilight sedation, it should just be the cost of the medication, probably below $200. If it's actual anesthesia, an anesthesiologist will need to be there, which is billed by the 15 minute block to my understanding, i believe a full hour runs in the $500-900 range. It would really depend though on what's being administered, by whom, for how long, and how they code it. Ultimately, you'll have to find out from the clinic, and also, keep in mind that the $200 for sedation, might just be for sedation, and they might pay more for anesthesia. So make sure the billing is coded properly.

Hey Kimber I am confused about what you say insurance will or will not pay. Are you saying the insurance pays $200 towards the cost of the sedation or what?

Since its light sedation given in an IV by your dr that is much cheaper than having a anesthesiologist there putting you under. So, you may be worrying for nothing. You can find out from your insurance what all they pay.

Its an easy remedy for them to get the insurance to cover the twilight,they simply add a code pertaining to an increase in surgical anxiety and it's covered by whomever does the meds for it. The only exception is medicaid in some states,of course!!

I have had it done either way and really didnt notice much difference other then recoup time post procedure and nausea from the meds used.

I finally got a ball park figure with my insurance paying 200 dollars of it , I will have to pay $150.00.

That's not too bad at all then for both the costs of the medication as well as the procedure. Is your PM an Anesthesiologist? Or will he have to have one in there for the procedure?

And if that is too much to afford, I would speak with the Dr. as they can decide to discount the amount or even set you up with a payment plan.

When our state started requiring a yearly urine test for all patients on controlled substances, my PM knows that I am self pay without insurance and he works it out with the lab to write off the entire amount which is close to $800!! Just like my regular appt. every 3 months...the price is normally $150 but he discounts it to $75 for me.

So all you have to do is talk with them and see what they have to say.

That's even better then as you don't have any extra cost for this. Mine is too and that's what makes it great as they are very experienced in these kind of injections...
