Glanced at the site and saw my name! I think there are many people on this board who have gotten Lumbar ESIs so they can chime in as well in case their situation was different...

I've had about 4 of the lumbar ones over the years and many more cervical ones...Keep in mind that my experience is based on not having any sedation.

After they monitor you for about 15-20 minutes (may be longer for those with sedation)...And then I walked find to my car and drove home and just chillded out the rest of the day.

The only real soreness the first day is where the injection went in so I use frozen peas on this off/on from when I get home till I go to bed.

Sometimes the overall pain will go up a bit by the next day or two but then comes back down and ends up helping me a decent amount for the next few months. So don't let it discourage you if it gets a tiny bit worse before it gets better.

hey yall, i have had many of the lumbar epidurals and i have had with and without sedation. they always say go home and relax. its no big deal to me at all. i guess i was really careful after the first few i had but after that, which i have been getting them for 8 years now,i just take it easy. normally though by the time i go get the esi i have to go in the office in a wheel chair because my back and legs hurt so bad. when i come out i can walk with no pain.

i say no pain but as you know we are never pain free. it just goes from a 10 goin in to a 3 coming out. i consider a 3 on the pain scale to be a great day for me. lol

sometimes it works great, sometimes it works about 60 percent, sometimes it dont work at all. i just try not to get down and just think to myself, well i will have it repeated.

sometimes i get really frustrated with what insurance makes you do.they will pay for this and wont pay for that but at the end of the day im thanking god for

I schedule my ESI's for 8AM and I am at work by 9AM usually. I have never not driven myself. I do take it fairly easy for the day, but for me the recovery is no more painful than that a regular day of pain. They affect everyone differently. Hopefully for you, everything will go smoothly and you will feel good.
