It's Monday.... time to check in and let us know how you are.... how you survived the weekend and what you've got planned for the week ahead.

I have 2 doctors appointment's this week, one is with my pm doctor, so I have a few questions for him...and see what things we can get scheduled...Today just down time for me...going to see if I can unwind, we got a lot scheduled for this next weekend having to go up past Dallas and get my daughter moved from a dorm to a apartment and we got a 5 day feeder for my boy toys (kitties/cats) and hope it's work good for them. Many prayers and well wishes to everyone, hope y'all have a good week...

Been a long weekend. My wife was admitted early Sunday morning after having chest pains while at work. She is having a heart cath done this morning. She is in the hospital she works at which is 50 miles away and I don't have a reliable vehicle right now to get there.

The kid is worried and upset so I kept him home from school today, plus I have no way to get him there even if he wasn't emotionally compromised right now.

Pain wise my legs and back have been on a flair since last Thursday and I think my gastroparesis is also acting up because my stomach has been a bit upset since Friday and my pain meds aren't working.

Went inpatient on Thursday with symptoms of aspiration pneumonia. With my puny jaw opening, this is not unusual. X-ray the next day looked better so the plan was to stay inpatient and get 3 days of IV antibiotics. X-ray was taken again yesterday which looked way worse than the Thursday scan. My Duke crew is talking to my local drs. I do have intersticial lung disease which could be the cause, or pleurisy YET again. I just need to get out and spend time with my son. Miss the kid:(

Only the hospitalist has rounded so far.

Went to PT on Saturday. Yesterday I realized that it has been helping. I can raise my neck back without any major pain. I think my pain issue may be under control soon. I feel relieve in that regard. I hope it continues to improve.
The weekend was a bit rough though since depression seems to be coming back strong. I really hate feeling like this. The month is ending, hoping this phase will end as well.
I feel like I need a vacation.
No major plans for the upcoming week. Just work.

Not much going on this week, I did see an Eye Surgeon last week and am scheduled to have my cataracts removed, they are going to do the left eye first on the 20th of May, then if every thing goes well they will do the right eye, 4 to 6 weeks later. I have been told it is no big deal, but I don't like any thing that involves my eye. Many many many years ago when I first entered the Military I got this new type of contact lens and you were suppose to wear it for up to 30 days straight at a time before taking them out. Well I wore them two days and I had to have them removed because my eyes were swollen shut, and they scratched and pitted the surface of my eye because of lack of Oxygen to my eye, and then I had to wear eye patches over both my eyes for 4 or 5 days, and it felt like some one had poured sand under my eye lids, it was the most painful thing I had and have ever experienced in my life, and I have been apprehensive about anything and everything concerning my eyes ever since then! They wanted me to see the eye surgeon two years ago, but I declined, but now my vision is being noticeable affected, especially driving at night with the glare, so it is time to get it taken care of I guess!

Cataracts runs in both sides of my family and both my parents had to have their cataracts removed when they were in their fifties. I gues it just comes with "old age", anyway the surgeon said I had "lemon-aid" cataracts as they were yellow and cloudy and my left eye had streaks in it!

Hello all and hoping everyone in the hospital gets better and home soon. Jim so sorry about your wife. I know all to well about not having reliable transportation too. If you call the school and let them know they may be able to work something out with you. Also the hospital may be able to arrange to get you there if she has to stay. You can call the patient advocate for her unit.

Rock sorry you had to stay longer then anticipated and I imagine being away from your child is awful but you need to get better for him.

I've nothing more then hydrotherapy this week and that's not like work it's my favorite thing to do and I feel so nice afterwards.

Thank you all for your patience and support as I learn the ropes moderating. I will get the hang of it and hopefully can be half as good as the other CP mods. You all have hard shoes to step into!!

Hello all

I am in great pain, but new medications should be ready tomorrow so really looking forward getting started on them. Usually takes a few weeks for meds to take effect but hopefully won't take too long.

The combination of severe pain and the spaced out feeling from the nerve pain drugs is a really tough to deal with, like existing outside of the rest of the world sometimes. Really hope I can still function ok adding yet another drug to it.

Onwards and upwards...

The weekend was up and down with the pain levels and the family issues. Oh how I wish alcohol were not even on this planet (of course I do understand many people can enjoy an adult beverage and have a great time within reasonable limits). It just isn't that way in my family.

Last night my poor daughter was very, very sick from eating some not so good burgers yesterday. We spent all night dealing with that so she has been home from school with me today.

I pray this week improves and that God finds it in his heart to help my family through our growing pains as well as our physical ones.

Friday night: was up all night w/ pain from the port surgery.... wasn't too sure I had made the right decision.... but now it's down to just soreness.

Saturday/Sunday: was pretty much down w/ extreme fatigue, "flu-like" symptoms.... it wasn't until today that I learned that the infusions I'm having can cause this for a few days afterwards.... would have been nice to know. My last infusion is Thursday.... then I'm done for 3 months.

Ultimately, glad I got the port as it made today's infusion a breeze.....

These days, I'm usually in a better mental place w/ all my health/pain issues.... but I'm frustrated and down today w/ how I'm feeling. Trying to just be thankful for all that I do have.... but just having one of those down times right now.

Jim: Sorry about your wife and hope she quickly is on the mend.

Roccky: I know how it is to be hospitalized and missing your little one(s).... hopefully someone can bring him to see you if you aren't getting out today.... feel better.

UA: Sorry your depression is coming back... as I just wrote above - I know that feeling all too well. I need a vacation too, lol.... feel better :)

RetiredMom: I grew up in an alcoholic home.... I know the effects that it can have on all involved. It's a disease that doesn't just affect the one who is drinking, that's for sure. My prayers for you and your family.

It was a complete rain out weekend for us here in SC, which was just as well. Saturday was my 5th day in a series of extreme pain days. Pain far outpaced all my meds, left me drained. By Sunday, it finally let up, and I had a "normal" pain day, which was refreshing compared to the previous 5 days.

Didn't do much, wife had to work a rare Saturday, and Sunday, we had a typical family dinner with the kids and grand kids. Kind of needed a chill out weekend.

Today, spent 3 hours in a legal meeting. Tommorow, have to get the windshield in my car replaced. Wednesday, PT and another legal meeting. Such an exciting life I live, lol.

Tommorow, I will know if I will be re-scheduling the "lump" operation or not. Will let you know the final decision.

My weekend was pain filled as they seem to be more and more often now. Had to take my daughter back to college last night. Her college is 80 miles from our house. We left at 5 last night and I was home by 8.

Today, I had radiation, left at 9 this morning and did all errands that were needed got home at 4. Pain been at solid 7 all night.

I have pulmonary rehab Tuesday and Thursday. See dermatologist on Wednesday. Thursday in addition to rehab at 9:30, I have radiation at 12:00, and see primary care Dr at 2.

Friday need to schedule Appts for a tooth to be pulled, and I like WB need to schedule my cateracts to be removed. Hope to get that done before June 9th. Daughter landed an internship at a University this summer in NYC. Hope to do surgery before she leaves so that she can take me and bring me home.

That's it for my week. I hope Jim your wife is ok, Rock I hope you get home soon. Hope everyone else has low pain days and the energy you need to get thru your week. You all will be in my prayers.

Howdie,

I know it is Tuesday, but thought I would post anyhow.

I put the final touches on my manuscript over the past few weeks, addressing various suggestions received regarding the original version. It is now going into production and I should get the proofs this summer.

This completes the task that has kept me at my desk even more than usual and so am hoping that I can now take it a bit easier.

A few weeks ago, I switched to the Butrans patch and am ambivalent. Even at 10 mcg/hr, I'm not sure how much it is helping. I still have typical BT episodes a few hrs after I get up and again around dinner. That has been pretty constant for years. So, I'm taking 5-7.5mg of oxycodone for those.

The Butrans might tamp down some of the background pain, but I'm not sure if it does that much.

I see my PM on Friday and will report to him the mixed results.

My pain block or upping my Humira has finally started to work. My pain was better this weekend. But I have been getting at myself about being on too many meds. Which also has not been helped by several of my doctors saying the same thing. So I tried to go off my muscle relaxers daily and just take as needed. I went about four days without it. I was hurting in my back. I gained a bunch of weight from the Prednisone and Lyrica. So I decided to start trying to exercise again. Yesterday I walked around the block. It is half a mile. I used to be able to do this in my sleep. It almost killed me. I wasn't even and 1/8th of the way before my back/hip started to spasm. By the time I made it all the way around I thought I would die. I am so mad at myself for getting in this shape.

I hope everyone has a better week this week.

I sure hope everything turns around and goes good this week for everyone.
Purgatory, we had rain on Saturday, most of the streets in Houston flooded but we are South of Houston and didn't need to go into the big city so we took it easy and relaxed, However Texas still needs rain due to the severe drought.
Well wishes for everyone! let's get better low pain weeks...

cogito - didn't know you were a writer too. what do you write, or what is your current project. I had my 3rd novel published last year, and currently working on my first non-fiction manuscript.

chart - in your dry country, sure every inch of rain is a blessing in disguise. we are already above normal for rain for the year, lakes are plenty full.

Hi David (purgatory) -- I recall our having a similar exchange about a year ago. Your 3rd novel and a 4th book in development is impressive. I write non-fiction, and my book relates to 18th Century Europe.
