4wks post op c4-5 acdf

Curious about what others experience. At times the clicking and pain in my neck and my clavicle feel just like pre op Is this normal?

Sorry for all my typos I am 4 weeks post op acdf for c4/5.
Concerned that i am stilling having neck and clavicle clicks and Pain when I move and this is all very similar to pre-op
I had a large herniated disc with cord compression
Also still feel dizzy at times. Anyone have similar experience.
Does this mean it did not fuse????

Ge, most likely the clavicle clicking is ok, but this is something to check with the dr on to make sure. Really & truly you are still considered fresh from surgery so give this all time to heal. You really don't want to try & rush things because you will pay for it dearly. Keep in mind you just had a major surgery. Things look healed on the outside but the inside needs to heal too.

I see you posted on another person's thread that went back to work too soon from having neck surgery. She is now back off work healing properly & so try to be patient. Its tough waiting & waiting but you want to be able to do your job when you go back & not be wracked with pain & misery because you went back too soon. Still too soon to start PT. Hang in there, things will get better in time. Be sure to ask your dr questions that you have when you see him again.

Thank you so much. I get confused about how much I should be doing while in recovery. The only po instructions are "do not lift over 15 lbs and do not turn head to the extremes and use soft collar if you want"
In your experience could you give me a generic look at what people are doing activity wise at 4wks?

Hi Gecarpenter Welcome to our chronic pain forum. I agree with Susie/straydog. You need to be patient, as you don't want to go back to work too soon. You also don't want to do things that may keep you from fusing. Good luck, and keep us updated on how you're doing.

Very little, just what your dr gave you instructions on. These first few weeks are really important. While healing you want everything to be where its are suppose to be in there. You most likely will have a lifting restriction for a while, he sure to always check this out with your dr when you see him because you sure don't want to mess anything up.

We have a member named Snowbunny that has had I believe 3 cervical fusions & she will most likely pop on here sometime today. She knows the ins & outs very well, along with one of our moderators named WhiteBeard, he too has had neck surgery.These two people have had extensive surgery & will be a very good source of info for you.

Keep checking back for their posts, ask all the questions you want. Take care...Susie

Just wanted to pop in real quick and say that I would be happy to share some thoughts about my experience with the cervical fusions..

I wanted to share a thread that was fairly recent from the boards where another new member was asking questions and sharing about their recent cervical fusion.

This also has a lot of hopefully helpful advice that I and others wrote for you to look over and then feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
