Hi Steve & welcome to the forum. Lynn gave you some excellent ideas. Usually the first six weeks after surgery you will be limited to walking in the house to start with & you can venture outside as long as you don't go very far. You want to be able to make it back to the house. Stay on flat even surfaces at all times. Walking will help build your strength & stamina quicker than anything, just don't over do it. Being patient & learning to pace yourself will be a tough one.
I do hope that you will have someone at home with at least the first couple of weeks. If not, as Lynn said be sure to have plenty of food & snack foods on hand that are very quick to heat & eat.Be sure to take your pain meds, do not let the post op pain get a head of you. Once that happens it is so difficult to get it back under control. Be sure that your dr gives you a muscle relaxer to take after surgery, people tend to get some bad spasms after surgery. Get on stool softners too, you do not want to be straining after surgery either. Another good source to keep the plumbing working is prune, no more than 5 at a time.
Other will pop on with tips I am sure, I wanted to pop on & say hello & welcome aboard......Susie
