New PCP wants to switch around my meds

I think you have some very good questions to put to the dr. Most of us are under the care of pain mgt. drs because treating pain is their specialty. With all of the hype over the war on drugs, we now have the DEA involved and this is why so many primary care drs have stopped writing scripts for chronic pain patients. They have to take classes about pain mgt and a lot of other stuff and they want no part of it. Many of them are afraid of the DEA coming into their offices and doing an audit. Its really made a mess of things. So, if this dr decides she is going to give you something mild for 10 days only, do not be surprised. That is when you ask the dr to refer you to a pain mgt doc..

I would like to say that celebrex, might be something you could try. I have a niece that takes this drug and she think's it is a life saver. Tramadol, seem's to be pretty good for me.For sleep try Advil p.m.take two and add 2regular Tylenol (325 mg tablet/acetaminophen) With this should work better. Hope this help you. If you can can take Oxycodone only take this once in awhile so it will keep working for you.Allot of people miss use this drug when they take it to often. It will turn on you and give you a real bad headache.

I think the list is a great idea. Those are really important questions to ask and have answered.

My doc prescribed me Celebrex before I had insurance, and I ended up not being able to take it for long because it was so expensive. If you're paying out of pocket for your meds, there are several anti-inflammatory meds that are affordable and on the $4-$9 list at the pharmacy at Walmart, if that's what your doc prescribes. Walmart has been a life saver to me when it comes to certain medications.

Please let us know what happens at this upcoming visit. I'm curious to see how this new doc will respond to your questions.

Lahaina, I'm in the same league as you and use methadone for my CP and also no b/t. I don't talk much about it outside of here either since for some reason it carries some strong negative opinions to many.

I have recently even been able to lower my dose some since I have been on it over 10 years, just mainly to see if it was causing some issues I was having. It wasn't as they changed only after adding an anti-depressant.

I love the freedom of leaving the house and not worrying about how to safely transport enough meds. I went up North to visit family last year, took 8 pills was gone 5 days and had 3 leftover just in case I got snowed in. At that time I was still able to get the 40 mg ones but nolonger can. Even hate that since that means 4 pills versus one even if it was huge!! Lol

Glad to see someone else that can relate. Barbara Lee also uses it for her base Med but I believe she's also on a b/t due to her multiple issues. Her Drs have her capped in mgs due to the black box warning.

me good questions and certainly ones that would determine whether that was the dr for me.

went to see the new doc lady again got mostly good answers to my questions. told her I would do the switch at the end of month after important week long working trip, didn't want to adjust to new meds away from home and my usual routine. she said it would be fine and during the interim she would see what my insurance would cover or not cover will let you know how things are going once the switch happens
