Mine, Which I just read again in someone's post,
Is being told to "suck it up"

For me personally " it " is about pain & fatigue from a family member - repeatedly.

LOL, I have a phrase I get from my mom that annoys me. She has degenerative disc and I know she is sore, but she does not have all the other issues I have.

"Deal with it, my back is bad to!"

At one time we both had the same orthopedic surgeon, he told me her back was nothing compared to the issues I have with mine. Especially at my age.

How about: "I don't know how you could hurt all the time"

or: "Keep on smiling, other people have it so much worse than you"

and finally, the infamous: "It can't be that bad"

Funny thing was she would carry on and on about a little tiny splinter in her finger, and then I would have to take it out right away! And oh boy would she carry on then! while I was taking it out! LOL

Just like her brother telling me "You look silly! You don't  need that cane to walk your daughter down the isle!" that was just a few minutes before the wedding actually started! He was always commenting about me using a cane!

Glad I don't have to hear those comments any more from them!!! turn

The one I got from a doctor I used to have.."Hows the inflammation?" Like I know how to respond to that one...Maybe If I was smart I would said "You, tell me!"....but, I was flabbergasted and just said I don't know, painful...

Thanks for the input! Somehow I feel better knowing others also hear these (thoughtless /stupid / hurtful ) comments.

Reading these gave me a light bulb moment - Oprah's stated "when people tell you who they are, believe them".

So, in a way, it is a good thing that people tell us what they think.
(I still interpret most as "you are a liar")

"What are you taking?"(Before asking how I am feeling by family members)

"I had the same thing...and I bounced right back..." "Just start running/this/that and you'll get over it"

If you're up and out of bed, you must be doing pretty good. No reason you cant go out. Ex MIL

Another new one from my mom. You must be getting used to the pain by now.
Just push through it you'll be fine.
If you just did your physical therapy you'd get better.

Stand up straight, it's your posture.

It's been mentioned, but: You're on pain meds already, so how can you hurt?

Most recently: It's just pain. It won't kill you.

These statement are terrible! I'm so sorry that some of you have had to hear these type of things....!

Some of the things here would make me.... LIVID.... they are very rude statements!!

The only thing said to me that just makes me more frustrated, than angry - is when I'm feeling terrible... or going through a flare w/ my health/pain.. and someone says - "You look great. You look like you feel good". While it's a compliment (in a way) -- it's just frustrating because many of my illnesses are "invisible illnesses".

"You look perfectly well" (but the look in their eyes is saying "I don't see anything wrong with you".

And every time I hear that one, I am thinking as I smile back "Try living a day in my body, you have no ideal how I am feeling".

Nerve damage in one ankle.. pain has kicked in -no pun intended ; )
And so I used one of those scooter shopping carts this morning..

All were still plugged in backed up together -All but impossible to unplug without crawling over & around jSo I asked young lady employee to do it for me

maybe she had her own personal issues -But she would not look at me
& just kept mumbling.. Perhaps I took it too personally..

I love when I go to the wellness center to work out. Sometimes I'm using really light weights (I can tell when using a heavy weight might cause a muscle or tendon injury on me). People, especially men, will just roll their eyes at me; I know they're thinking I'm a real slacker.

I always want to say "Did you notice how slowly I'm working? That's because I'm using isometric resistance to help make up for the fact that I can't use the heavier weights today."

I have this irrational fear that I'm going to end up on someone's page, randomly, just because of how I must look so awkward, like a weeble or penguin and gritting my teeth as I walk so I don't yelp out...

I wouldn't know, but, isn't that a weird thing? To be so consumed by your own pain that you create some silly fear you'll end up on the news?
