New "interesting" med given off label - questions/comments

Earlier this week I went to see my long term psychiatrist for cp related issues and the anxiety issues I always have. I brought up depression since things haven't been going the best in the world lately for me and we discussed my issues with serotonin syndrome.

For some odd reason, I CAN take Ultracet with no problems and I know it affects the serotonin levels, but SSRI or SNRI creates serious reactions for me.

After a couple of minutes of thought, he decided to try me on Adderall (which I knew/know very little about). I have had some family members with children who took it, but that's about it. As most of you know, it is ordinarily a medication for ADHD.

So, after doing a little research, I found where Adderall is also used for treatment of depression, fibro, chronic fatigue, and narcolepsy (which has become an increasing problem for me over the last year). Even my endocrinologist tested me for additional blood sugar issues last week to see if we could find an answer for the sleeping issue (dropping off to sleep and sounding very, very drunk just before doing it). I don't drink and I don't change up my meds.....they are the same as always. He also checked thyroid and issues with my pituatory disorder.

The bottom line is: has anyone else taken Adderall as an adult (without ADHD) and, if so, did it help with the pain, fibro, sleep issues, weight issues or anything? Also, if you did take it, were there any major side effects? I have naturally read all I could find about it and have started by taking a quarter of a dose, followed by a half of a dose today. Tomorrow will either be a 3/4 dose or the whole pill.

Any questions or comments??

I did actually try to take it for the lethargy on methadone. However my blood pressure was uncontrollable on it and eventually I just lowered the methadone and the problem was resolved.

I know it worked as far as keeping me from nodding out,almost too good as it was really hard to fall asleep on it.

Just have to give it a shot. Hopefully you will do ok with it.

My wife took it for CFS...She also tried the extended version of it. Both drugs made it difficult for her to fall asleep. She eventually went off them as the side effects were worse then the CFS.

My doc was going to try me on it for my fatigue, but I am very sensitive to meds that can cause anxiety so I passed. I hope it works for you!

I'd be wary of taking Adderall... especially if you are taking an anxiety med (like Xanax) too.

You know, RM - I don't appreciate your response at all - and it really doesn't show you in a positive light.

For your information - I didn't look up what meds you are on.... because of being a long time member - I remember what various members have mentioned, especially if it relates to an issue I have (which I have anxiety as well). I made NO assumptions, thank you. You've mentioned many times that you are on (or have been on) Xanax before.....

I'm very open that I have suffered depression and anxiety - and I have been on all the meds for those issues - and would never make any assumptions.

What I was saying - to YOU - or to anyone that would ask a question about Adderall - I would be careful with it - particularly w/ how it relates to any other meds you are taking (and I mentioned Xanax before because you've previously mentioned you take it).

You don't have to read my opinion, agree with my opinion and so forth. But making comments such as "Your concern for my well being is so touching" - is considered rude and flaming... and not allowed here.

All that said - if the new medicine is working for you - I sincerely am happy for you.

RM, I remember you being on Xanax a low dose is what you always said. I did not go back & look up an old thread, I don't have time some days to read current posts let alone look at old ones. My point being I was going to suggest going to Drugs.com to check to see if there would be a problem with the two meds. Sure pharmacists are suppose to stay on top of this sort of things but sometimes they slip up.

That's a good point Susie - and actually what I meant in my original post.... is that these meds DO have interactions w/ other medications - and you don't know that usually until you try the med. Even if you have a doctor that is monitoring things - you don't know what side effects, etc you'll have until you try it....

That's why I said about being careful.....

You are so right RM we are very tired of your nonsense. I could not have said that any better myself. You come to this forum for one thing, trying to start something. You have proven yourself rather well in that department.

As I said I don't always get on here every day but I don't need to explain myself to you either. Regardless, the forum will continue on and your little attempt at trying to distract what this forum is about will not work.

You are so right there are more important things in life than your nonsense.

That's not fair Tina I get the final thought!! I was the one that got called a "nobody " I replied less then 2 hours after it posted!
