Medical Identification?

Does anyone here wear a Medical Bracelet or any other form of Medical ID??

My doctor has been after me for awhile to get one.... and I just keep putting it off (and off and off) :) I don't wear jewelry for the most part... but in the event of an accident - I really need to have some form of ID on me...

I have several things that I need one for - including having a life-threatening sulfa allergy; am severely anemic; have numerous health issues/meds; and have a port (which is really the only access to my veins).

Anyone else wear one?

I wear one all of the time. You can get the ones that allow you to update the as a flash drive through American Medical. It's a really good company with nice products.

I need to do the same, I have cards that I carry for the implanted devices but I have some bad allergies to several drugs. sounds like I need to check into this too.

I'll try to look into this... and see what I can find... and will post for those of you that are interested....

Hey Tina you really need to have something.

I also use the thumb drive and keep it in my purse. Its casing has the medi-alert symbol on it as well as there's a card that goes in my wallet.

Also, dont know what kind of phone you have but my galexy has a downloadable app available that's a medi-alert and it puts the medi-alert thing on my homescreen. It will open with the phone locked just like emergency calling.

I've seen pump patients with a card but you also need something to direct first responders to look. The USB and medi-alert jewelry have stickers for the outside of your wallet, purse, etc.

Also have seen a keychain thumb drive as well as a medi-alert thing for key rings for those who cant wear jewelry.

It can be very important to those on opiates since many times EMTs and triage note opiate prescriptions in your purse or house and if your nonresponsive the first reaction for safety is to narcan you in small dose in case you've accidentally overdosed. This is NOT something you want them guessing at.

This hapens more then you think especially in small rural counties where drug abuse is overwhelming! Hint :White Beard!!!

Ok out off curiosity I checked phone apps and Android has one that cost $1 and can be downloaded at googleplaystore. Apple has one as well for all versions of IPhone and cost varied by phone provider's, didnt see one more then a few bucks, at least the ones I checked. Also life alert advertising shows a phone app as well but it looked more expensive.

It's well worth my $1 since you can list all meds, Drs, surgical procedures,even upload scans and I've used it as a reference when filling out new patient forms for consults and hospital visits. The one I have has not only medical information but emergency contacts and a "Living Will ",health care surrogate, donor card. Its basically a neat tool but everything is at the click of an icon and since my memory fails me most days on dates and such its just awesome to be able to look it up.

Worth looking into since these days our phones are an extension of us.

I realize to many this may sound silly, but I believe it is important. We always assume out wallet or purse will be close by. What happens if you have a wreck and the wallet/purse is thrown away from you and can't be readily seen. What is there is a gas explosion at the grocery store and the same thing happens ? Hopefully you get the idea. The best way we can insure we get appropriate medical care in case we're unconscious is to wear a Medical alert Bracelet or Necklace.

Vickie, but the same thing can happen to a phone, if it's in your hands or your pocket. The force from a impact, be it from a wreck, explosion, tornado, etc can force things from where they are to where they can't be easily seen or may never be seen again. Plus, if you were unconscious on the ground would you rather have people looking for your phone or trying to help you or others.

I'm not trying to be argumentative. It's not where something lands, it where it doesn't stay. We all seem to think that we will know before something happens and we can prepare for it. But, as you well know, life just isn't that way.

If you are implying I personally am not disabled you would be quite wrong.

Lupus, Sjogren's, Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia, Depression, Chronic Tendonitis, Bursitis, Arthritis, and I'm sure I've left something out. But it doesn't matter, neither I nor anyone else should have to defend ourselves.

I see what you mean about perspectives changing. Lol here's one of mine. If an explosion blows my phone out of my pocket or a tornado rips my dress off? My way of thinking is I wont be too worried about my past medical history!

I really do think though we see thru different eyes then healthy folks.

I also think too many folks shouldn't take offense where none was intended.

I never even thought about buckling my purse in but it makes some good sense.

I like the shoelace thing to. The little thing on the bracelet would actually thread right into the lace. My granddaughter has a name, number thing on her shoelace and you open it like a locket and it has a fingerprint inside. Crimestoppers or Missing and exploited children, one of those groups provide them to her school. She's in 3rd grade and got this in kindergarten. My daughter changes it when she gets new tennis shoes.

I always worried about whether anyone would think to look for it there?
