Since my PT pointed out the extreme weakness in entire left leg and glute and low back, I've been trying to do things around the house while standing on just the left leg (and grabbing the counter so I don't topple over).

I'm going up stairs just the left leg at a time. But I cleaned (what I could) in the house,...

Truth be told, my left leg hurts like crazy and I feel like I've been kicked in the sacrum by a mule.

Productive (got some of the house clean) and unproductive (spent a lot, a lot of time on ice packs and in a lot more pain than usual). Hubby even did the laundry for me, he knew I wasn't up to it.

The pain sucks but I think it's for a good reason because I refuse to accept this degree of weakness on that side throwing off everything I've been through to "get better."

Wow Merrida, be careful! And I know the feeling of pushing oneself to the limit quite well!

My Monday just started poorly...woke up in massive back and leg pain. Scared my wife. Said I looked "wild eyed."

Cymbalta side effects don't seem to be hitting me as hard. Had crazy fatique and tiredness last two days...and hoping today is better. Really hoping this med helps pain and mood...even if just a little bit.


Hope everyone's week goes by smoothly..and good luck to increasing that leg strength Merrida!

I guess I've been adopted by my dil's cat. She's been here many times, following the grandsons like a dog. She refuses to stay in the same house as her kitten (never keep your cat's kitten!), so to keep from starving or freezing, she's been begging to come in my house. She runs around outside the house following me from room to room. I can't let a housecat suffer, although feral cats get fixed and returned to the wild. But she plays with the stuff on the Christmas tree!!!! Will vinegar spray work to discourage her?

I figured out a way to keep the seams of my pj top from causing agony (central pain syndrome). I wear my hubby's T-shirts underneath. Their seams come down past the shoulder tops and are thinner.

OK, I've done my hand therapy for the morning.

Alcie, it's very hard to discourage cats, best thing to do is to try to place the tree in a room that the cats are not allowed to go into. We do this as well, tinsel can be deadly for both cats and dogs if they eat it. Cats love to play with bows but do not let them eat them...

The cold weather we had in Texas last week really played up on my RA, car is getting fixed up starting today. No doctor's appointments this week, but next week I have 4 appointments, and then finally my daughter's graduation is getting closer...Got scammed online and for a Nook HD+, getting that cleared up.
Got tree up yesterday, no ornaments on it yet. Put train around it today....

Alcie, your post made my morning! I think that is terrific what you do. From taking the time and care to neuter or spay the feral cats and let 'em go,...to your DIL's kitty adopting you.

It feels so good to be adopted by a furbaby. It sounds like you provide a safe and happy home for this kitty.

I think they make a spray that repels animals (maybe it's just dogs, but I think they make one for cats) and maybe you could spray it around the tree. Maybe move the tinsel from the very bottom and just drape it up a little further up the tree?

Our tree getting wiped out by a playful kitty was something we grew up with.

Only supervised visits (!) in the Tree Room?

I applaud you for taking kitty in and letting yourself be adopted, not wanting to see a kitty suffer or hungry. (I can just hear that Sarah McLachlan music starting to play in the background).

Oh, not sure, but a few moth balls (in little boxes with holes?)....or is that for mice? I don't remember.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving late lunch. We prefer an early afternoon meal time. This gives the guys plenty of time to watch football.

I did my usual sale shopping online and love it that way, lol. I do not do crowds well at all and can sit right here & order it online & never have to leave the house.

I have an appt with the cardiologist Wed for a check up. I need to find my card & call the pulmonary man & see if I can get in before the first of the year. I had an appt with him that I missed previously because I was sick & could not go. He is not going to be too happy that I waited a few months to be seen oh well. When I was in the hospital in March a surgeon that specializes in laprpscopic surgery was called in on consult because of a large hernia I have. I lost his card & could not remember his name. The other day out of the blue I found his card and thought I would call & see if I could get this taken care before the first of the year. Now, that I have this infection going on that is not going to happen. Talk about bad timing, boy I did it this time,lol. Its always something.....Susie

It's cold and rainy in Alabama.I got about half the leaves up Friday.It put me on my back for that evening.

I got out earlier and the traffic is insane.I'm staying in unless I have to get out.

I'm happy with the pain medication I'm taking.I just either need 1 more a day or an increase in milligrams.

I'm not suffering so I got that going for me.

Hi Everyone

 

It is so cold here and Im hobbling around the house.  Leg is killing me.  We had a quiet holiday.

 

We are having leftover turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes for dinner tonight.

 

I need to renew my car registration tomorrow.

 

I got fuel oil delivery today and it brought the level up to 3/4 full.  I have a boiler furnace, steam heat

My weekend wasn't very good. We have saved the money to go to Tennessee to be with my family for Christmas. I called my sister, and her friend living with her had a knee replacement, and she doesn't want to commit to a week of us staying there. She said she has her hands full. I then called my mom, and she doesn't have anywhere for us to sleep. I even called my uncle and aunt, and they don't ever know when my cousin and his wife are coming home. He drives a truck, and his wife stays on the truck with him.

I'm so hurt and upset. We haven't saw them since 1996. My heart is broken that I won't get to see my new nephew. He will be 6 months months old on December 11. cry

My pain isn't too awful bad. I hope everyone is having a low pain evening.

I'm sorry about the cancellation of your trip :( I saw your trip thing on Facebook.....

That doesn't even seem right that family can't commit to just one week of you guys being there. :( I truly am sorry.

Susie - let's hold each other accountable :) -- I'll get in to see my cardiologist; you get in to see the pulmonary doctor.

Sound like a plan? :) Seriously, though - we both need to get in!!!

To all the cat lovers:
I don't have any tinsel on my tree. All low ornaments are plastic because they were put up by 3-year-old grandson, and newly walking granddaughter will be visiting at Christmas. We use 2 50lb weights on the base. The cat seems to only be interested when the lights are on. I don't have a room with a door for the tree, but I did lock her in with me in the bedroom last night. I woke up with her on a corner of the bed. She knows she's allowed the chair but not the bed! She has to stay in the bedroom when highly allergic son and another dil visit. We vac chairs and have a very good filter system. I lost my cat allergies years ago.

Mixed bag this past weekend.

Saturday, "normal CP" day, we got some Christmas shopping done, not much else.

Sunday, "severe CP" day, whole body felt like flu aches, from shoulders to feet, had to rest a lot in bed, didn't get much accomplished.

Tuesday- having the special MRI's done of my inner hips done early in the morning.

Wednesday - meeting with my Oncologist, also to go over results of MRI's, and picking up the rolling walker, they finally got all the paperwork worked out today, so no problem now

Oh David I'm so sorry that you had a horrible pain day Sunday. Bless your heart. I hope your appointment goes well with your doctor. I hope the MRI shows the reason for your hips giving out. Please let us know how the appointment goes, ok?

Thank you Tina. I truly don't understand it myself. sad It makes me wonder if they miss me as much as I miss them. I know my mom does. She only has one bedroom in her trailer. I don't know what I'm going to do when Christmas gets closer. You guys may see a lot of posts from me during that time.

David, I am so sorry that you had a particularly rough day yesterday. I really hope you get a break from all this soon. And yep, also hoping that MRI they do may shed some light on why your hips are giving out so much.

It's good news that (finally!) you'll be getting ahold of that rolling walker. Yay for that!

This is one time, I am hoping the MRI's show something, anything, definitive. Even the new oncologist that ordered them said how frustrating it is for both doctor and patient, when one has some serious ailment - and you can't pick it up even with the most modern of scans. These will be done with and without contrasts. Due to the weird angle she wants of my inner hips, was warned that I would be propped into a very awkward and uncomfortable position for the duration of the scans. This doctor is working on a new hunch, and I want to cooperate all I can.

Did get the paperwork worked out finally for the walker, so I am suppose to pick it up as soon as I get out of my doctor's office on Wednesday. Gee, that only took 2 weeks of fooling around. When I was at the VA office just today, I almost fell in the exact same spot that I went to the ground about a month ago, and I was paranoid and watching extra careful. With this hip issue, I never know which hip is going to give out, or sometimes, its both.

Another concern that I hadn't been even thinking about recently, is I am suddenly going through another spell of unexplained weight loss. My wife could tell from my clothes recently, so I weighed (don't do it on a regular basis), and have lost 12 lbs in the past 3 weeks, despite eating endless amounts of junk food late at night.

My other concern, and will be pointed out to my doctor, is just how much muscle loss I appear to be having, now very notable in my upper thighs, formerly a strong area on my body, as well as my upper arms, which has never been an issue before.

Hope these scans will be the beginning of some new treatment(s) that can be tried.

Finally, I have been happy with the switch from Lortab to Norco. They hit me in about 45 minutes, instead of the 1 hour with the Lortabs, and for some reason I can't explain, they are making the Tranxene that I have been on at night the past 12 years (?) have a strong sedating effect that was never there before. Now when I take my one pill, within 30 minutes, without warning or even feeling a thing, I simply pass out asleep anywhere from 1-3 hours. Never did that before. And the only change, is going to the Norco. Doesn't make sense to me, because both Lortab and the Norco had the same amount of codeine in them.

It has been a very up and down week so far...

I am no longer struggling with methedone withdrawals. For that I am very thankful!!!

I still not having pain relief from the fentynal patches. My dr gave me a prescription to go from 100mcg to 150mcg every 3 days. I have been getting the run around with insurance though. I was told the 8th of Dec I would get the increase. My dr has been in able to get a hold of insurance to authorize the increase. I have spent so much time on the phone with insurance, dr, pharmacy ect... I feel I am going in circles and getting nowhere. Hoping to get everything squared away.

Had my second p/t visit yesterday with a new therapist. I have been doing p/t off and on for almost 20 years. This therapist practices the McKenzie (sp) method. Has anyone else tried this ad with what kind of results?

Felt somewhat better today and over did it. My son was crying for me and I wasn't sure how I was going to make it to his room and gold him. I sometimes feel like a failure as a mother, but I love my son more than anything and do the best I can. Happy hubby has the next 2 days off!

I apologize this got long. It helps so much to have finally found a group of ppl that truly understand this daily struggle. Thank you for welcoming me into your "family." :)

I first heard about the McKenzie method back in the 1980's but I know it's been around for a lot longer.

Heck, my (first) PT, when he was selling his services, made it a point to tell me he practices the Graston Technique.

I'm just a patient in pain, and I say whatever works, stick with it.
