Opiate related nausea - need some help

Off of methadone and 44 hrs on opana er + percs for b/t pain. When w/d methadone pickle juice worked best with nausea I assume was from Percocet. I'm on more narcs now til opana er really kicks in to do its thing (takes days to a week I've heard) and pickle juice not working as well. I have fenergan from last Friday E.R. visit but it makes me feel spacey and racey in the mind (same effects benzos have on me). Constipation, nausea, and pain are my enemies to battle right now. I can control the pain fairly well but pay the price with more constipation/bloating/nausea which makes my pain feel a whole lot worse (primarily lower back). Suggestions? What's worked/working for you? Thanks in advance. -Mike

Literally 4tbspoons of dill pickle juice. Must be something about the vinegar, blah, blah, blah. Don't know how it works, but when w/d from methadone it stopped me and kept me from vomiting when nothing else I tried work (including promethazine and fenergan). When I was in Germany a german I knew in Vinestadt (wine making community) used to drink 8 oz apple cider vinegar every night for his stomach and indigestion, sweared by it. I also have constipation I'm dealing with as well, maybe they're connected, just tired of this condition. I'm also still having jerks, spasms, kicks 4 weeks after coming off methadone which wake me every time I begin to dose off causing serious insomnia for last month (0 to 2 hours sleep in 24hr period). All sleep aids/benzos, etc. make me feel weird, hyper, and agitated. Methadone is mean monster to come off of. -Mike

Added new topic: "very disappointed - mike's med change update". The Phenergan is suppository. As I 've shared in other posts, everything that's supposed to help with w/d symptoms has opposite effect on me and intensifies the symptoms, shakes, etc. Thanks for sharing about iced lemon water. -Mike

Mike, have your tried Zofran? I have to take it daily, I have a pain pump and have gastroparesis as a result of the drugs in my pump. I am with Tina, one thing I do not handle is the nausea well at all.


I do hope that you will stay with the Opana & not get back on the Methadone. You have come this far. Vickie did it and if you will read her post she had quite a time too. Is there any reason your dr would not put you on Butrans?

I've dealt with some w/d from hydrocodone...sure it doesn't compare much at all with what you are going through.

Hi Mike what kind of dosage are you on, allot of times when you have nausea and vomiting from a opioid pain med, it is because of dosage. Allot of times one is started off on a low dose not just because the doctor doesn't wants to  give you more than what is needed to control your pain, but also, allot of patients don't tolerate strong or high dose pain meds right away! It often makes them sick with nausea and vomiting.  Starting off on a lower dosage can prevent this, and as your body adjust it is then slowly increased in strength. However the draw back with that is,  allot of times the lower dosage  does not take care of the pain well enough.  Zofran is effective for allot of people, but it is rather expensive. There are several different  antiemetic medications available, some work better than others, just depending on the person! Just like pain meds everyone is different, and what works for one might not work for another!   I do hope that you can find something or some way to get this under control, as it,  is bad enough to have to deal with the  pain, and then to have to cope with nausea and vomiting, just makes it a hundred times worse!

Thanks Mike but to be honest it was just a job that I felt I owed to my country! Of course I think most of us vets feel that way. It is a Great country and it is all of us that make it that way, and it is also our responsibility to protect it and keep it strong! Thank you for serving too! By the way, what branch were you in?

I am currently on suboxone for pain and I have been on methadone in the past. I remember how horrible the w/d was. I took tons of immodium and zofran (allergic to phenegran) . Good luck to you!
