Merrida, glad you have a date now. Another step towards putting this all behind you! How long will you be in hospital? It goes without saying you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for sharing the date...Were you able to get an appt. to another Dr. for that second opinion?

And if you don't mind me asking but I was confused when you said that you will need reconstructive surgery....why would that be needed with a lumpectomy? I've only seen someone need that when they are having a mastectomy.

The reconstruction is because they're removing the nodes and the tumor, plus they're removing the precancerous tissues from both breasts.

I think the PS is there just to sort of "tidy up" and give me a shot at some level of symmetry. Even after the biopsies, my breasts look like they're from two different people. I didn't think just a biopsy would result in such a "deflation" (for lack of a better word).

When I lay on my back, one of my breasts looks like a saggy balloon now -- it didn't before -- (and that's the one they're taking the tumor and nodes out of), and the other one looks like it's on "high alert," about a C-cup. And that one has a number of what was detected as precancerous masses in it, but they're going to take the metastatic tissue and questionable tissues out, all at the same time (not a mastectomy).

Yes, I got a second opinion. Everything's been agreed upon.

I'm pretty ok with it, but as it gets closer and things get finalized, I admit it, I do get a little more nervous.

However at the moment I'm terribly preoccupied with my black and blue back from that silly fall I took. It hurts my ribs just to breathe and the bruise is, of course, bigger and more painful today. Ack.

Thanks for sharing more...I have a few close girlfriends who have had this same surgery removing the tumor and then the sentinel nodes or the ones from the armpit area and they didn't have a PS or need any type of reconstruction.

The surgeon usually does such a great job of having a tiny opening and then getting the tumor/nodes out.

But that is great that your insurance will cover PS!!

And that is wonderful that you were able to make the appt. and go to the second Dr. already and everything is set! And fitting this in by the end of the year instead of the regular scheduled surgery in Jan! That makes a big difference with the deductible..

It's nice to have some good news in the midst of dealing with this:)

Thank you everyone, and I appreciate your well-wishes and prayers.

I've been very blessed that my surgical team has moved me along so quick,....that I was able to get a 2nd opinion so quickly,...and yes, that my insurance company is completely covering the PS work. What we're looking at is more of a breast lift after the loss of tissue from both breasts (even though the cancer only appeared in the right one).

I'm glad,....I have what God gave me, but it'd be nice not to have one stick straight out and the other leaning down towards my toes. It's unsettling.

I will definitely be sending extra positive healing energy on that day and you will pull through with flying colours. Heck I say that you have been through so much and are going through so much that if you can get the ps, go for it. You have enough to worry about and deserve to have a "lift" somewhere. Okay all joking aside, good luck hon and no more falling down!
