new to this site, scared

Hi, so happy to find this site. Imnot sure how to post so i may be repeating myself as i posted earlier. I have neuropathy with no known cause. All test negative. Started in November in the feet now all over. Burning stabbing pains and stiffness. Very depressing as i have my six year old granddaughter with me alot and so hard to keep up. I havent worked since November but am expected to return on January sixth but not surr if i can. I just feel alone as no one understands. Are othets sble tokeep their jobs with this pain. Currently i am taking gabaten and a compound cream.

Hi Vickie. Thanks for responding. Sometimes you just feel so alone when you dont know anyone else going through this. I would gladly welcome any sugestions on how others deal and what meds might work. Neuronton makes me very anxious. Anyone else have this.

Ive been on neurontonsince November. Started with 100 mg three times a dsy. Im now trying two pills at bed time and two in the morning. I guess i just need to increase it. So hsppy to have someone to talk to.

I agree with Ides. I've had neuropathies that were so painful,- same thing, where I couldn't bear to have clothing or even sheets touch my skin.

I would sleep with my legs hanging out so the sheets wouldn't touch them. The cradle is a very good idea. Many of us understand that type of pain, so you sure aren't alone.

It's possible that you may not be at a therapeutic level of Neurontin yet. You may want to speak with your doctor and inquire as to their treatment plan for you while on this medication, since generally you start at a low dose, and gradually work your way up to an optimal level.

It sounds like you've still got a lot of wriggle room in terms of upping the dose...but as Ides mentioned, always speak to your doctor in advance, express your concerns, and see if some adjustments can be made.

Hi NJ & welcome to the forum. My husband has neuropathy because of diabetes & he is on 1800mg of Neurotin daily. As Ides suggested, get in contact with your dr & start increasing the dose. You have plenty of room for increases. Hopefully once you are at the proper dose you will feel much better.

hi carol and welcome to the forum. as mentioned before lots of great people here with ideas in how to deal with many pain issues. i myself am going through a pretty rough time. i also suffer from nerve pain, have now for maybe 7-8 years now. anyway i've had 4 back surgeries in the past 7 years and have the worst pain
in my lest leg. from my waist to my foot. recently i had a pain pump implanted and so far am not having much luck with it. week ago monday was my first adjustment and thats when the pain just skyrocketed.
sorry to throw some gloom your way but as you can see your not alone. we're all here for ya.
currently i'm taking 2400 mgs of nuerontin hopeing that might help.
anyway best of luck to ya and and my 2014 bring you some relief.. keep us updated...

I just read your post and welcome aboard. We are a big family here and its so much advice you will see that you are not alone. I so understand how you feel. I also deal with this monster and its chronic. The burning, stabbing, stiffness and all will have you feeling like a depressed non energetic person. In the past I had 4 back surgeries that failed and has caused me to have neuropathy. The more active I am it seems activities can bring on inflammation and cause the sciatica nerve to burn. I have a 8 year old son to care for after raising adult children, and this pain prevents me from doing many activities together with him. I see that you are taking gabaten, but sounds like its not really working for you. I take Lyrica for mine, 150 mgs 4x daily along with a host of pain meds and I still hurt, so I understand what your going through. This nerve pain is a lot to deal with you just want to stay in bed. Keep your head up and we will pray for one another. blessings to you for the new year.

I too have unexplained neuropathy. It came on suddenly after a long day on my feet back in September 2013. Pain, burning, tingling in my feet that nobody seems to understand. People look at me like I am crazy when I say the top of my shoes hurt my feet and that my heel touching the floorboard or gas pedal in the car becomes excruciating. Stiffness that seems to be getting worse with each day, all over my body.
Although I don't wish this on anyone, I am glad to find others with the same condition!! Finally!! Gabapentin seems to help a little, but I am on a low dose comparatively speaking. I thought it might actually have caused this, since it started right after my neuro doc doubled my dose for migraines. Its very frustrating and scary. I am single and must work unless I want to be homeless.

Like you I have had all the tests and they are all negative. I go back to work tomorrow after a weeks vacation. I thought I would feel better, but I went on a cruise and all the walking we did has made all this much worse. I seem to be the only person alarmed at my own condition. I sincerely hope one of us can find the answer. My sister in law also has neuropathy and says if I find the answer to pass it on to her as well!! Everything I read about Gabapentin says that you have to build up the dosages for it to have better results. But what if the symptoms are caused from it? Mine and yours both started right after increasing dosage. That would be a logical assumption, wouldn't it? I tried to stop taking it and I was in absolute misery. I called the doc and they actually increased it to 3 times a day.. I guess I don't understand that logic at all. I am going to call the doc tomorrow.

Hi Carol I guess I am behind in keep up with posts! I just wanted to stop in and also give you my Welcome to the Healing Well Chronic Pain Forum. It can be difficult when your having pain and alone, that really is one of the many GREAT things about this forum, there is usually always somebody here to listen and share in your pain and frustrations. I have said many many times when your here on this forum your not alone any more!

I have had problems with my feet for along time, numbness and tingling and blankets on my feet would cause my feet to spasms in a heart beat! That muscle in the arch of my foot would knot up and my toes would curl under so tight. I have an adjustable bed so I conjured up a piece of metal electrical conduit, and made it into a blanket cradle of sorts it is mounted directly to the bed spring base where the bracket is to keep the mattress from sliding off the end of the bed. Anyway it keeps the sheets and covers a good few inches above my toes all the times no matter how I am laying. It looks a little odd when my bed is made, ( like a tent at the end of the bed) but it works!
