Hi all. Weather is a big deal for me. Cold and damp. Not just cold and dry.that is ok. Wind and barometric big changes. In my head or what Do you all who live in Arizona have a better time in pain management. Wondering of I should move.

I live in a moderate climate (Western Washington on an island) and I find it is best for me. Being hot makes me nauseous and being cold intensifies my pain. Plus there are hundreds of things we can do here without driving over big elevation changes, which also intensifies my pain!

Just a suggestion, more people might pop in to read this thread if you edit to add a subject line...

I'm in South Houston, Texas Area, and we are having freezing temps. This doesn't happen every year here, but if it happens here it can happen any where. Has nothing at all to do with global warming hocus...Winter in general is cold. Even Hawaii has been cold this year. Cold weather is bad for most of us even me and this weather is having me in a big flair. However, you'll have to deal with humid to dry hot heats in the South and sometimes that can be harsh on a person as well. If you do Summertime shopping in the South you'll be going from 65 f in the stores to over 100 f outside and it's hot here 7 to 9 months of the year starting in May and it can get to you if your not used to it. Arizona is very hot, I had a Uncle who used to live out there and most yards have painted grass and cacti plants...So going from Michigan to Arizona can be a huge change and you'll need to consider that, Arizona probably see more Rattlers than we have here in Texas as far as snakes I've seen a bush whip here in Texas...they are poisonous. Where I'm at we have a very humid heat at least 70% most days...I like it...I wear a sweater in the Winter and in the Summer I take a sweater everywhere because of the AC.

I moved from Kentucky to Florida for just that reason but like Char said you have to be able to take the extreme summer heat. We also have seen far colder and more of them days this winter in Central Florida but its generally fair in winter here and we don't see 30 lows and 50 highs .

Weather is a big effector when it comes to pain. For me temps in the 45-5 degree range seem to bother me the worst. Below 5 or above 45 and I do better, but high temps, above 80 or so, and my pain will also flair up.

Also, on a side note, in the Summertime up North you cool off at night, here in Texas we go to bed at 90 f and wake up to 80 f, we do not cool off in the night like Michigan does...and that also takes time getting used to it...Michigan you go to to bed it's 50- 60 f at night, this will not happen deep in the South...

I've lived in Michigan (still do), Florida and California... California was where I felt the best but I could not handle Florida. The humidity, the heat... exacerbated my pain. Plus I tend to hurt more when its raining and it rained there every single day in the summer. This brutal cold has made me a tiny but stiff but its nothing like the flares I had in Florida. I know everyone is different but that was my experience.

I wish I could afford to love in California... I'd be back there in a heartbeat!

Thanks a lot. I think Southern California would be the best for me. High humidity is bad for me as well. Cold and damp is a no, no. Cold and sunny is o.k.

Will try and get to California or Arizona in the winter. Much wishful thinking at this point.

As usual, I'm the odd duck out.

I live in New England and love the cold. The heat bothers me. Absolutely, the extreme heat will knock me down for the count, but even when it starts to get above 70, I can feel my body getting cranky.

Somehow I find it easier to work through any stiffness I get from when the weather is in the single digits (it encourages me to move around more which also helps reduce pain),...than when it's warm out. I feel trapped when there's heat, trapped inside a body that can't move.

The only caveat, (as Vickie will lovingly remind me) is my uhm,...propensity,....to slipping on the ice when walking the dog.

But hey, I just bought two pair of crampons for my boots and sneakers....(just have to keep taking my leg brace out of one, and all the orthotic components, and re-stuff them into whatever other footwear I'm strapping on!)

But hey, it's better than wiping out on my tookus!

Maybe check out Colorado Springs it's a nice area and not as much snow as Denver...I lived in Colorado Springs, Co for 3 years and It was okay...

Char I had a PM doc in 99 that actually moved to Colorado Springs from Tulsa. She herself was a CPer and moved for health reasons? It may be a good go to place weather wise if the PM doc's want to be there!!

Stupid Central FL has had me in a bad way the last 4 days. Cold and rain, rain and cold. It finally seems to be warming up/drying out a bit as of a few hours ago but now all the moisture in the air has it humid, which doesn't help either!!!

Hello all! This is my first post on healingwell.com and I want to say hello from up here in Boston where it currently 19 degrees out! I lived in the North East all my life and I am just coming to the conclusion that the cold weather really exacerbates my pain level. I am seriously considering moving to California or NC but I think everyone is different...plain and simple...I don't think one place is better than another, it's just a matter of what weather you feel is best for you and whether or not it's worth the move to a warmer/colder climate. Me personally? Warmer weather but it took me 30 years to come to that conclusion! Ughhhh...
