Grammy allot of people often make the mistake in thinking I will not take my pain med unless I am in pain. Especially when one has just had surgery. The thing about
that is, if you wait till you have really bad pain then you put yourself behind the power curve so to speak! It is harder to get ones pain under control if it is already there in full force. If you take your pain meds as scheduled or when you first notice that your pain is starting, then by the time your medication takes affect it has already nipped your pain in the bud and prevents it from getting worse. If you can prevent the pain from getting a good grip on you in the first place, then it is easier for you to control it!!
Night time always seems to be the worst time for pain, often you will find some one here at the forum, posting late at night for the same reasons that you are laying there awake. Maybe consider taking your pain med just before you go to bed. Also I realize that some pain medications do cause some people to not be able to sleep and feel "wired" Vicodin and Vicoprofen and some other pain medications causes that with me. If I take a Vicodin at ten at night, I am just about
guaranteed to be wide eyed and a wake at 2 or 3 in the morning. Some meds are worse than others. I don't have that problem with the oxycodone but hydrocodone just keeps me awake. You might try taking just one and seeing how you react and then the next night try the other.
Also have you tried some music to help you sleep? I have one CD that is called Music to Promote Sleep, honestly I have never actually consciously heard the CD all the way through! I away fall asleep before it gets finished playing. Just something you might want to consider trying.
I wish you well!
