Does anyone else's pain come back sooner than the time you can take your next dose? I prescribed 3X's a day, My husband said If I don't need one in the middle of the night then I can take one every 6 hours but sometimes I need to take a dose before bed to get to sleep from the pain not keeping me awake & sometimes I'll need one in the middle of the night when the pain has either kept waking me up over & over or woke up and left me awake bc I hurt too much to be able to have the ability to fall back to sleep. I can usually go 5 hrs until my pain comes back unless it's just one of those days then it feels like it either doesn't help or it only helps for 3-4 hours. I tough it out but I'm curious if this is just something my body does or if others have this same same problem. Can it be from a fast metabolism?

Do any of you take your medication but sometimes it doesn't even touch the pain? What about your pain got worse after you took the medication? (That one really throws me off, how would my pain get a whole lot worse after taking my dose & usually drastically worse too.)

One that's really bothering me is the med seems to bother my heart. It starts beating weird & very uncomfortable. Kind of like palpitations, sometimes feels like it is a palpitation but there's also other weird beating feelings...idk if it's just a side effect or if maybe bc of my heart condition. (VSD, stenosis, tachycardia majority of the time anyways, band that's too tight around my heart)

What do some of you do to help with the sleepiness side effect?

Have any of you woke up feeling uncomfortably hot in the morning?

How do you cope with being dizzy with the medication? My nerve pain med (Lyrica 100mg) make me light headed can hardly take a couple puffs of my cig bc of how light headed I get, now that I'm on this new med that causes me to be dizzy & sometimes light headed I've been nervous about taking the two together.

Oh how about mood swings? I've always heard that people get mood swings/real irritated when the med starts wearing off but I've been noticing mood swings/irritability sometimes right after it's been 30-45 minutes after taking it...how'd you deal with that, any way to make it better?

Oh and I'm on Oxycodone 10mg

Jennie if you order says "take 3 a day " not every 8 hours they have left you some leeway on how often, just remember that 3 is for a 24 hr time frame and if you take more you will run out too soon. You do not not want that to happen or you could lose your PM.

Im assuming that by oxycodone 10 your referring to oxy ir? This is a instant release short acting med. Its designed to hit fast and hard but that means it also moves out of your system rapidly. 3-4 hours is
generally the max relief its going to provide.

I have similar problems as you on the oxy ir therefore can't tolerate it. The side effects are too severe and it's possibly reacting with some other med. Go to Drugdigest and do a interaction search listing the oxy and anything else your on.

People have vastly different reactions to opiates and insomnia is one of the biggest, actually all those warm feelings, ability to stay awake, racing heart, are the glorious symptoms that your addicts love!! Lol go figure right? We hate the darn effects they happen to love about our meds!

They can and usually do get less as your body gets use to the med and again why addicts crave and need more to keep getting that rush.

Unfortunately opiates of all kinds can cause a condition known as prolonged QT pattern which is an irregular pattern in the way your heart functions,some opiates are worse for causing this then others but if you continue to feel that palpatation you may need an EKG to check for it.

Vickie, Yeah I have been only taking 3 per 24 hrs. Thank you for letting me know how long an IR is suppose to last, I was worried that it wore off too soon but it seems like it wears off at around the times you have given.

What else has worked better for you than the oxy that gave you less side effects? The side effect that bothers me most is how it effects my heart. It's weird the hydrocodone didn't effect my heart but it wasn't strong enough to even touch the pain, at least these take the edge off. Today I woke up with my heart palpitating but harder than usual, I can always feel it skip the beat but thias time I can really feel the beat after the skipped beat & it was doing this before I even took anything, I still haven't taken anything & kind of don't want to bc I am already pretty tired & I don't know how much more of the heart I can take. I'm trying to wait until my pain is too much until I take my first dose also to make sure it stretches as far as it needs to. I start hurting most after a few hours of being up I think I'd rather have the pain med available for then instead of taking it when I'm at my wake up level of 5 (pain level) but with my fractured hand idk if I'll be able to hold out....I had to wash my husbands water bottle for work and took the brace off just turning the knob on the sink made it hurt real bad.

I'm thinking about moving my cardiology apt up some, it's for may 13th but I think I might want to go sooner to get another ekg done while on the medicine to see if it's just more of an annoyance or if it's effect my heart in a bad way.....I hope my body adjust to this soon, I can't stand these side effects.

Jennie this is one of those darn sticky situations where it took so long just to get someone to treat your pain that your half afraid to complain for fear they will take it away again and not replace it!! Yet you can't continue to have side effects that can be dangerous either. Many times they go away after a week or so but I just never could tolerate the Oxy IR. No problems with Oxycontin, no problems with percocet, just the instant release.

I know this is a pretty new Dr for you so you dont want to start "rocking boats " by asking about other meds but Im wondering if asking him if he could change the release style not the medication or dosage would be acceptable if this does not clear up? Say something like the medication is causing you some problems due to hitting you all at once as well as not lasting very long in it's pain relief before your in pain again? That is it possible to get the med in a slower release form so that it will last longer?

What does everyone else think? Should she approach it like that or some other way?

I'm somewhat surprised he put you on an IR alone without a LA med onboard as its not what the FDA recommends for chronic pain. Unless of course he is hard headed like most new PM Drs we see and just isn't ready to commit to a CP diagnosis!

Vickie, yes you have my thoughts down to a T lol. I am afraid to have any complaints out of fear it'll be taken away and not replaced. I was surprised too that he did an IR alone, I'd like him to add an LA one so maybe I could save the IR for when I'm real bad and use the LA to hopefully hold me up through out the day but am too afraid of mentioning anything. I think bc of my size he might have just wanted to start off one med at a time. He said he wants to see me in 2 weeks to let him know how the medication is working....I'm also wondering if the apts more of a pill count/pee test to see how I am taking it. Yes please everyone give their input bc as Vickie said it took me so long to finally get someone to help me and I can't afford to lose this help.

Oh & he himself have said I have fibro & that he knows it causes a lot of pain everywhere in the body.

You might want to see how it goes when you see him, before deciding to say anything. If he seems inpatient, busy or rushed and you're concerned he may not be listening to what you're saying well, you may want to wait until the next visit. I understand what both you & Vickie are saying. It is just something you have to use your judgement with when you see him. At least that's my opinion.

Yes! M&G your right! Timing is going to be important especially with her Dr and given his "lack" of attention the first visit he must be apt to get grouchy. Picking a time when he seems, calm and interested will probably make a huge difference!
