My journey back from knee revision

I am so happy to finally feel well enough to begin participating in the forums.

The latter part of January I had a left knee revision. Had it on thursday and went home on sunday.
Monday morning about 2 I woke up with 101 temp. Had friend take me to ER. Told I had flu. Tues.
went back to ER to get breathing tx as I have asthma (this was per my surgeon's request). Dr. also
put me on tamiflu. Ran high fevers all week long. Went to pcp on Fri who told me I would not begin to
feel better till end of next week. Unfortunately I had to begin pt the next wk.

I have to say this has been the most painful knee surgery to date. I was on oxycontin, oxycodone and a
slew of other meds. After 2 weeks I called my Dr. and told him I was feeling depressed on meds and
felt really wierd. Started on norco the next day. The only thing with norco is that u do become a clock
watcher when taking med. (I know because I have been taking it a long time) I could not drive for
month's and felt very helpless this go around.

about a month ago I went to a reunion for joint replacement patients. Four days later I woke up with
strep throat. Who gets this lucky? They forget to do a culture so meds were not given until later in
week so fever did not break until friday. I am currently on a second round of antibiotics.

Other than catching everything under the sun I feel that this implant may work. Yesterday was my
3 month mark and I took my dog out for a half hour walk. Of course I can barely walk today but I
was overcome with emotion that I was finally able to do that. I need to get a cane as I am
supposed to be walking with one.

Vickie - I have been thinking of u because our knee experiences and surgeries have been very
similar. I kid u not this recovery has been hell. I hope in the end it will be all worth it.

I have 2 more pt sessions and I am done. Finally feeling the freedom to get around on my own. Just
started driving a little over 2 wks. ago.

I am hoping this will help my back to calm down. I need a new fusion as disks above and below fusion
need work. My bursitis is horrendous on rt hip but I keep using rolling pin to break up tightness.

Welcome back! I'm sure your recovery may have been a bit faster had your body not had to keep stopping to fight off everything else! Lol just figures doesn't it?

I am so glad your making progress!! Those are the kinda stories that lead to hope for others! I've walked around on broken hardware for so long it amazes my surgeon. I know the days going to come that's not going to be the case so I am especially glad to see your revision is making life better.

The same Ortho Surgeon has done all my knee ops but since moving to Florida I have not found one I am entirely happy or comfortable with and that's a problem!

This sounds familiar doesn't it? Walking the dog after joint surgery, over-doing it, getting a delay in "kick off" because of complications straight out the gate?

Oh Cali, I can relate to your plight. After my last hip replacement I had complications, allergic reaction to abx, infections, temp, high WBC, ambulance rides to the ER,....oh yes, it was a joyful occasion.

Learning to pace ourselves is so important. And I know, I know,...it's tough. Some of us still bear the boot prints on our behinds, reminding us to take things a little slower.

It's getting the head to accept the body's got a little catching up to do. So I'm here to reaffirm,....slow down, slow down,...it'll be there tomorrow! :)
