Tailbone pain

I have just had a bone density scan and I have osteoporosis, I am only 48. I also have just been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I have been in liver failure twice, so the rheumy doesn't want to treat me with the RA meds because they are hard on your liver. He plans to use them only in bad flare ups and only for limited time. My question is my lower back is killing me and it radiates to my tailbone. I can't sleep or sit or even stand or walk for very long without my lower back and tailbone killing me. the pain when I get tired goes down into my legs and feet. Does anyone have any ideas about what could be going on?

I see you have bulging discs at 5 and 6, is that Lumbar or Cervical? The Lumbar region can affect your legs and feet.

I'd get to your Dr as soon as possible, I know how painful it can be.

I have something going on now in my Lumbar area with pain/numbness in my left leg, ankle and foot/big toe.

Is the pain in your back, legs and feet recent? since you had an MRI or X-ray?

it is my cervical area and I also have ddd. I have had mri of cervical spine and thoracic spine.

I would ask my dr to schedule an MRI of my lumbar spine to see what is going on there. Depending on the results of the MRI would tell the dr which direction to take for treatment. From what you are describing pain wise it sure warrants this being checked out.

I'd also ask the Dr for an MRI of the Lumbar spine, I was told problems with legs and feet can come from your lower spine, not cervical.

When the MRI of the Lumbar has been done your Dr can hopefully know more about what's going on.

Have you tried having an epidural? My PM does them sometimes at L5/S1 & it really helps me with similar pain issues. Also, ice helps on a short-term basis... and I avoid heat altogether.

Besides disc issues, I have osteoarthritis & the swelling gets really bad at times. The longer I am on my feet, the more the tissues swell and increase my pain -- sometimes irritating the nerves that run down my legs or around to iliac crests. I try to curl my pelvis/tailbone as much as possible (in yoga they say "tuck your pelvis under") and that helps. If I'm sleeping on my back, I will pile up 4-5 pillows under my thighs so my body can stay in that position without effort.

Adding in my $0.02, along with the others, I'd strongly encourage you to speak with your doctor about a lumbar MRI (and they will often also order flexion/extension XRays).

The symptoms you describe sound like it's quite possible they originate in the lumbar region. (I'm not a doc, just sharing my personal thoughts, as I've got lumbar problems as well).

A qualified board certified neurosurgeon to review the actual scans would be ideal....
