Job Interview

I took a percocet the night before a drug test at my new job and it didn't show up. It was a 15 hour time frame from pill to test. I would bring your medications in the bottles with you and if it comes up I would say something but since they are prescribed by a doctor I wouldn't sweat it to much. You are in sales you aren't going to be operating machinery, heavy equipment, or other expensive equipment that requires you to be of completely clear of mind altering substances?

jpjr50 I personally would not recommend stopping your pain meds completely or even cutting back on them any appreciable amount, as both of these actions could cause you severe withdrawal symptoms, and then you would not be in any condition to go for a job interview. Everyone is different in their response to withdrawal symptoms, and how long it takes to go into withdrawal, but it is a risky proposition. I think the best bet would just to be completely honest about your medical situation. Especially if you are going to have surgery relatively soon! You might want to get a letter or statement from your doctor stating that your medications do not interfere with your ability to work, and do the job. Other than that, I think honesty is the best bet, if they find out later on that you deceived them about your medical problems and chronic pain, they could terminate your employment and what they say about it could follow you for quite awhile, making further employment at other places difficult.  I have seen that happen with other people!

Dont waste your time with all the meds your on your interview would have to be weeks away. Especially with LA meds. All you would do is make yourself miserable for nothing!

I would be more concerned about the potential upcoming surgery, this is something that could prevent them from hiring you. If they are hiring for a position that requires attendence as an important aspect then them hiring you knowing you will have to be absent weeks possibly longer may see you getting passed over for someone who isn't anticipating that kind of thing.

I agree that a statement from your Dr goes a long way concerning the effects your meds may have especially if its a position that you have to be insured by their carrier to do. Like driving a boat?

Good luck and cutting 40 miles off your commute would have to be great!

Confidence and more confidence! Your qualified for that job and your issues with pain are not going to be the deciding factor! Your experience and work record is the key.

Well it was an interesting interview. This huge glass 6 story building and they had the entire top floor (penthouse). I showed up early dressed in my best suit. The receptionist escorted me to their beautiful conference room where she gave a sheet of paper with what the job entails. Nothing I haven't done before.

The guy I spoke with on the phone a few days ago for a half hour came in to greet meet (younger than me American) and said the VP is in town and he's about to catch a plane back home overseas so it would be a few minutes. Started to sweat a little but then realized, I already have a job so if I bomb here who cares (although I really want this one).

So the young guy returns with his boss (European girl) and the VP says he'd like to be involved with the interview (he's a European in his early 50's). We all sit down and start with some small chit chat about the building, weather, etc. So they start in with their questions and I'm saying to myself I need to be different then the regular applicant so they remember me. Being a goofball I figure laughter is appreciated by everyone instead of the same robotic answers. Not like I did a stand comedian act but here and there to throw in something couldn't be that bad.

Well after the nervousness left and I felt comfortable I had both Europeans in my hands. On my resume at the bottom under Miscellaneous I added that I was writer for a website where I write weekly articles. I figure a company can see they would be getting a person that communicate well so people told me to add to my resume. I even put links to my articles if they wanted to read it. Well the big guy says he read one of my articles and to explain it to the point where I said "Boy do I sound geeky, I'll remove it from my resume". They all laughed and the big guy said it was great.

It went for almost an hour long which I was surprised they gave me that long. I felt it was a good sign. I'm pretty good at reading people and felt it went well.

My friend just called me and I'm currently the front runner out of 8 applicants. I have 2 more interviews to dodge. I'll know in a few days.

So I dodged another bullet today, 1 interview to go. The kid went on vacation for a few weeks so they will make their decision then. Man, I hope I get this. More money, 401K, awesome insurance and best of all commute is less than 2 miles from my house (huge fuel, tolls savings).

My prayers are with you as well. That's why we moved actually. Hubby loves his job, and it's a great one, but from where we lived in MA it was around a 3 hour commute because of Boston traffic. Now from where we live in NH, it's cut down to 45 minutes, no traffic!

True, less gas, tolls, time,...they all help. But the reduction in stress is priceless. Fingers and toes crossed. Wishing you the best. I know it can be a life changer.

Just realized I never updated this thread.

I DID GET THE JOB!!! back in October 2013, so it was month after my last post.

I had to do a tie breaker interview and I killed it. The next day they sent over an offer- Base Salary, 4 Weeks vacation, new iPhone paid, $20K Healthcare package, etc.

It's such a great Company and it's only down the street from my house in a beautiful building in the Penthouse. My wife also changed jobs (we are in the same industry) and her Company is just as good. She makes quite a bit more money than I do so together we bring home the bacon.

For the first 3 days I was not taking my meds in fear of the drug test. Well they never gave me one and almost a year later they still haven't. So I guess I freaked out over nothing but how was I to know.

I'm still on the same meds and I haven't missed a day of work due to sickness. Still haven't scheduled my next neck surgery as I don't want it. I'm waiting for technology. Maybe someday I can walk in, they touch me with some wand and I'm fixed.

Congratulations on the job! That was interesting to read about. And I hope you get your technology advancement for that neck pain...that sounds great!
