Yesterday Dr put me on Gabapentin, 100mg twice daily, has anyone had experience with this?
At first the Dr was going to put me on Lyrica but decided on the other.
Thank you.

That's a pretty low dose, from what I understand.
I was on it last year but my body put up a fuss, so I don't have much experience with it.
If you type it into the search bar, you'll find a whole lot of posts on it! It tends to be pretty widely regarded for nerve pain, and usually well tolerated with low side effects (compared to some other meds).
As always, you know the blah-beddy-blah disclaimer about
how we're all different and ask your doc, etc.!

Hi thundercloud,
Been on Gabapentin for about
4 years. I take 1200mg at night to sleep. Calms nerves and induces sleep for me. I get a solid 5-6 hrs sleep. I tried 300mg twice daily, but had a hard time functioning. 100mg seems a very low dose. My neurologist indicated at 1200mg, I was a light weight. He has patients who take 3X as much as I on a daily basis.
I tried Lyrica, but could not tolerate it at all. Also tried Cymbalta and had same bad reaction.
Hope you get positive results. Good Luck.

It takes awhile to build up in your system & at that dose I would not expect you will get much relief if any. My husband is on 1800mg a day for neuropathy. However, if you don't get any relief don't throw in the towel, get the dr to start increasing your dose.
Let us know how you are doing.

I didn't tolerate gabapentin either, couldn't get up to a dose that was supposed to be theraputic.
But my type of neuropathy is not peripheral. Those nerves are fine. All my pain is caused by garbled signals because of injury to my spinal cord. My brain is interpreting every little touch, even a cool breeze, as pain. It still hurts like the dickens.
For me Lyrica was worse.
Cymbalta works differently. It increases serotonin. That didn't work either, but I can only take so much because of already taking Tramadol, which increases serotonin too and I run the risk of serotonin syndrome.

I haven't tried gabapentin so I really can't speak for that. I know my dad takes it for nueropathy. I actually take lyrica and do very well on it, gained a couple pounds, but other than that, it's working great.

hi there thundercloud. can't see where 100mgs. would do ya much good. right now i am also on 800mgs x3 daily. have been on
gapapentin for a few years. started on lyrica too but had some side effects that really didn't want to bother with. on the nureontin i don't have any side effects and it seems to help with my nuropathy pretty well. hopefully your doctor will be able to help you out. keep us
updated....

I personally prefer Lyrica...but everyone is different.
I tried to come off Lyrica and go to Gaba/nuerontin/whatever.
My GOD...I must have had an allergic reaction or something.
As soon as I'd take one Gaba...I'd start sweating...then a few hours later, I'd violent vomit. Close to the worse week of my life.
