Good Morning Abilene,
I had the consult with the general surgeon last week, however my last appointment with the neurosurgeon wont be until next Thursday. Apparently I didn't fully understand the neurosurgeon's planned surgery, as I will be having both anterior and posterior lumbar spine surgery. The general surgeon will make an incision in my abdomen just to the left of my navel, move all vital organs to the right side, and the neurosurgeon will then insert spacers in L4-5 and L5-S1. He will then close the incision and the neurosurgeon will put a spacer in L3-L4, then rods and screws from L-3 to S-1 from the posterior. The general surgeon says they cant do L3-L4 from the anterior approach. I will be in surgery most of the day and will probably require blood. Of course he went over all the bad things that could happen, which scared the crap out of me, but I know its just CYA. I am dreading going through this and the rehab, but feel that I must take the chance, otherwise my prognosis is not good, as my spine will continue to deteriorate. I don't have a surgery date, but hope I will after the last neurosurgeon visit. You all please keep me in your prayers and hope you have a good weekend.
