neuro vs ortho need answer ASAP

What is the difference between these 2 doctor's? Is one better then the other for acdf c4-7? Please help Asap. ..thanks!

Orthopedic drs specialize in the treatment of musculoskeletal issues and Neurology specializes in the disorders of brain/spine and nervous system that originate from those.

Personally from 30+ years as a Ortho/Neuro Nurse when it comes to my brain and or spine I wouldn't let any surgeon other then neurosurgeon touch me. That's not to say there are not some good orthopaedic Dr's out there but when push comes to shove the perfection and arrogance of a "Brain Surgeon" just seems to pay off.

Vickie's answer is great! I love that description. She has the first hand experience to back up her opinion.

I didn't find this site until after my surgery with an Ortho. To get there I followed the advice of a chiropractor, so I'm not one to know what I'm talking about. It made me rather nervous to read here and know I'd made 2 big mistakes with my doctor choices. I was glad to know my Ortho was board certified and fellowship trained. Those were important qualifications listed in other threads. He is also very confident, easy to talk to, listens, compassionate, goes on medical mission trips each year and prays for his patients. At the time of my decision all those things made me comfortable with that choice and it has worked out well for me.

I agree with Vickie entirely.

I personally would not let an ortho touch my spine.

Neuros.....this is what they do, it's all they do,....imagine if they can operate on one's brain and spinal column, then it's understandable how extensive their training is.

My ortho did my hip replacements, and he's exceptional at that.

But when it comes to our spine, it's an extremely vulnerable and delicate area. Hands down: Neuro
