I'm 49 and played since I was 15.
You know the routine:
ZEP,Skynyrd, Boston, Hendrix, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice I.C., etc.
My fret-boarding left arm surgery was for the terrible triad to the elbow, two broken ulnar shafts, 3 frgamentations of the distal radius and damaged tissue removal. Took 11 days in the hospital and 3 anesthetisms(some memory loss).
I am also a self-employed woodworker.
One ulnar shaft exited my skin when it broke, damaging the trough of nerves to my fingers. When I try to turn my arm to fret the strings, a tendon pops repeatedly in my wrist(I believe it is against one of the two underlying stainless brackets holding my (big bone) ulnar shafts together. My elbow snaps, crackles, and pops from the triad w/steel pegs and instability as a result.
Both shafts broke in my arm withh all the rest, except my fingers, in a sideways fall from about
12' to a driveway below, along with my wrist and elbow.
I try to play, but the nerve damage and pain catches up to me for a few days afterward.
Librium for nerves and tramadol for pain help me to work a little to pay my bills, while Ambien helps me sleep at night.
Rock on for me !
I cannot.
