hi everyone, I look at the post here but have never posted myself. I take a lot of pain meds, really a lot more than the average bear. But I can't stand going to the va for it anymore. The new doctor and I got into a big argument over my doseage like every time I do when I get a new doctor. He said I'm on to much even though I've cut back to the point where I can't take it anymore. But they are never satisfied even though they suffer from no pain and can walk around and be happy yet most of us live miserable lives. I am allergic to most medication like OxyContin, Diladid, methadone (which I wouldn't take even if I wasn't) and morphine. I was on 4x80mg oxycodones 4 times a day. I then went down to 3 80mg oxycodone 3 times a day with 150mg patch of fentanyl but it was messing with my breathing so I now have a Neuro Stim put in with electricity going from lower back down to my bottom of my feet and 3x80mg 3 times a day but I am still miserable and live in fear that at some point the DEA will make it illegal or impossible to get like some of you now. I get looked at by everyone who sees my dosage like I'm an addict or selling my pain meds yet I still try to put a smile on my face. I was hit in Iraqi and am now in a chair most of my life with 9 Herniated disks and 4 pushing on my cord, with Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, PTSD, Depression, high blood pressure, low Testosterone, bladder issues and bowel issues, and of course Complex Sleep Apnea, to name some of my issues. I take a pharmacy of pills but thanks to the Independance Fund and Gracies Hope Hyperbarics and Neuro Retraining along with ARP Wave Therapy I can deal with a lot of stuff like no more nightmares and better sleep and so on. My issue is I hate going through the VA doctors to get my medicine due to the previous comments and when I go outside to see a dr. Through my other insurance from when I was a Peace Officer before my body went to hell and I was retired, the doctors all tell me yeah we can't help you. They say, "well we can for all of your medications except your pain meds. You shouldn't be on that much". Even after I explain I have a monstrous tolorence and even my brother has a pain pump and my mom was on a ton of pain killers for their own issues so it runs in the family plus I was kind of tore up in war. They tuck their tails and say sorry. I don't blame them 100% because I know that the government has them scared to treat even though I have legitiment documentation, I know that there are people who abuse it (which ruins it for those of us with real reasons to take it), and there are those who sell theirs, (which again the same). But they still won't help. But, the doctors don't even take a good look at the documentation. I am NOT SUICIDALE but can see why it crosses the minds of those in serious pain. WHAT IS SOMEONE TO DO OR GO TOO????

Hi Tim, So sorry about the issues you have to deal with.
I don't have an answer. What I do know is that this forum is an excellent source of info and support. I am sure others who have better ideas will respond. Medications don't work properly on me so I am in the opposite lane.
I did want to make one comment on your story. I wanted to extend my thanks to you. You served your country and that is an honorable thing.
We are an Army family here, so I understand the craziness that caused you to serve.
I hope you find some peace.

Welcome Tim to the CP forum at HW.
Thank you for your sacrifice and at times like these I'm ashamed that the very things you sacrificed for seem to be out of reach to you. The government fails in many ways but to fail our servicemen seems worse.
If you read here then your likely up to date on my struggle this month with Walgreens and no those issues still are not resolved. I'm currently just under treatment to keep the majority of w/D's at bay. I can however buy whatever pain meds via the neighbor!! Lol, just shows their diversion tactics really are not hurting anyone who legitimately gets meds.
As a retired medical person I have to say the government is causing the vast majority of Dr's to retreat from adequately treating pain . The DEA, FDA, and yes even the AMA as well as the Academy for PM specialists greatly discourages long term treatment with opiates, encourage limitations on amounts, and impose these encouragements by threatening their livelihood with sanctions on their license. Add to the mix the sheer amount of power concerning these meds that have been awarded to the pharmacists by allowing them to base filling meds on what their idea of criteria is for your diagnosis. They're utilizing that power to the point of causing harm, as you said some people will end the pain with their lives. Depression is compouded by w/d and hopelessness of never seeing an end in sight.
We already have Oregon laws in place for Dr assisted suicide for the terminal so it's OK to end your life to prevent suffering just not OK to treat that suffering with the medicines designed and manufactured to do that?
I have no easy answer for you and my suggestion out of my own experience this month leads me to encourage those on higher then normal doses to backdown and now before your given no warning and thrown into withdrawl and pain at once.
You have a neurotransmitter have you looked into a pain pump? That would be my next move as I can easily see the day when pharma is encouraged to stop the manufacture of 80mg altogether just as they were during the first round of the war on drugs and the 120mgs.
Good luck to you and I wish we had better answers to offer you.

Hey Tim.Welcome to HW.
I'm sorry you're suffering.
It's tough to find a good Doctor.I'm pretty fortunate to have one.
I take Opana 10 mg x2 and Dilaudid 2 mg x4 a day.
So far my treatment hasn't been compromised or changed but I have friends that can't seem to find the same treatment.
Again,Welcome and God Bless.
