How do yall deal with pain meds making you nauseas/sick?

Hi Lacey, I have a implanted pain pump & have struggled with nausea for many years. I take Zofran which is now available in a generic & it is much cheaper. Get your dr to give you a script for it. It will not make you drowsy or sleepy.

Just make sure to talk to your doc about taking the Zofran before starting it. Especially if any meds have changed or any health conditions.

I have been taking Zofran for most of this year, 8mg up to 3x/day. I actually had to stop one med and they have to really monitor things because there are some meds that interact w/ Zofran and can cause prolonged QT syndrome, which may cause your heart to stop w/out warning.

Don't mean to scare you or talk you out of Zofran, just want you to be careful. I think it helps to some degree, and is worth taking--I don't get any side effects, but please be sure your doc is aware of it and everything else you are taking. Be safe!

Give your doc a call-- as long as they have your med info and health info, you wouldn't even need to see them. didn't mean to scare you!! Sorry!! Plus, if you are only going to take it here and there, or a lower dose, no need to worry. I'm so sorry I scared you. Just wanted to be sure that your doc knew everything you take and rule out any interactions before you started it.

I did take tramadol before for my migraines.. It worked pretty good for that but not sure is it worked better.. The pain of the migraine took over so I was soo sick anyway. I been taking the lowest dose of norco for about 4 years now and just recently started the higher dose about a month ago so it could still be me getting used to it.. The nausea causes anxiety for me too .. I guess everything makes it worse since it's so bad.. Ha ha, but the nausea just gets to me .. That sick feeling really bothers me. I guess I'll give it some more time.. I can't go without it.. I wouldn't be able to work without it because of all of my pain issues.. I just graduated college and I'm

I've been experiencing nausea with my new Duragesic/Fentanyl patch strength of 50mcg/hr. I am going to discuss with my doctor a decrease in the dose to 37mcg/hr (25mcg/hr + 12mcg/hr) to try and help this. I've tried taking Gravol (dimenhydrinate) for it but have not had much success so I think the strength is just too high for me right now.

In the past I the nauseous feeling from pain medications has usually gone away after a few days of use but for me it has been persisting with these fentanyl patches. If you have been taking these medications for a long time and are still not able to kick the nauseous feeling perhaps the strength may be too high for you as well. If you have an OTC "motion sickness" medication available to you that you would be willing to try out it may be worth your while, but if not I would speak with your doctor about it. It also is a good idea to ask your pharmacist - they quite often have solutions or suggestions to help manage and deal with pain medication side effects.

Just as far as long QT goes - obviously it's a recognised and documented side risk factor with ondans, as indeed it is with a multitude of other meds ... But unless you already have underlying long QT syndrome or are on other meds that prolong the QT interval I wouldn't look on this as a reason to avoid it outright- just as something to raise with your doctor as a concern and maybe ask whether it's necessary to look at something like doing a baseline ECG, and if you're needing to take it regularly, doing a follow-up in a month or two to make sure nothing has changed.

I don't take zofran that regularly (can't afford it - as it works out roughly $7-8 per wafer here unless you're a chemo patient - but it's the only anti-nausea med I can take as I get bad reactions with metaclopramide and prochlorperazine) but I have the all-clear from cardio to use it despite having a long QT - we just keep an eye on my ECG & electrolytes. I'm not suggesting that you do anything without consulting your doctor, but hopefully that helps reassure you that with medical guidance and monitoring it still has a good degree of safety.

You could maybe also try natural things if you haven't already...like ginger or peppermint, varying the types of food you take your meds with (e.g. whether food is predominantly fat/carb/protein. based will affect your gastric emptying and potentially influence absorption)

Hi, I don't know if I will be able to help you that much because I am 19, but I try to relax when I feel really nauseous. I know that sounds really obnoxious because being nauseous is crazy and horrible and you can never feel relaxed but if you try, it can really help. I take deep breaths and take warm baths. If I am available to I sing or try to take my mind off of it. One of the hardest things to deal with is knowing that your medication is causing it. You know that there is an actual cause so its hard to do the whole :mind over matter" trick. Sometimes though, if you think of enough stuff to distract you, it might just work. I'm sorry you feel this way. I have to change medicines a lot so I understand.
