What muscle relaxers work depends on what the cause of the problem is. And then, there's always what each person tolerates.
I have constant 24/7/365 muscle contractions/spasms from cervical spine injury, and I believe I still have some spine compression. I also have lots of (supposedly minor) disc bulging and arthritic pinching of nerves at the holes where they come out of the spine. It's neck to toes pain, sometimes radiating into headaches, from bad to awful.
For me, none of the muscle relaxers that I can take work. Most of them, like Baclofen, just put me to sleep at a low dose, so I can't get up to a "theraputic" dose.
Diazepam/Valium gives me a tiny bit of relief, but my pain docs don't want me to take it because it's addicting. Neurontin gave me apneic spells - stopped my breathing. But it's not a muscle relaxer anyway.
A tiny glass of my homemade wine helps, but I can't take that with my pain meds. Sometimes it's worth it to skip the pain meds.
Advil helps if there is any swelling involved.
My tiny hot tub helps just a little, very temporarily, but I'm afraid to get in it when no one is home with me, which is most of the time.
