I have been attempting to find a nerve pain med that actually works. The Gabapentin I cannot tolerate over 100mgs, and that knocks me flat out. Amitriptyline, doxepin and others don't help too much but rather make me really sleepy, and cause SEVERE ringing in my ears. Lyrics made me totally incapable of caring for myself, walking, or doing anything requiring coordination and balance-but did help the pain.
Its a High pitched, rush kind of sound like a TV is on, inside my head.
I asked my PM dr about it, and all he said is, "Back in the day we would treat RA with aspirin and the way we knew we'd reached the right level was when the ears started ringing" and basically said live with it as some meds can effect the nerves or hairs in the ears.
It makes me want to tear my eardrums out! It just adds to the "i'm going crazy feeling". It keeps me from sleeping and sitting in quite. I have to wear headphones all the time, even when sleeping I either have on a Fan, or play sleep sounds on youtube, a fan app, or medication music. Problem is its not the most comfortable way to sleep, the adds wake you up, and so forth and so on.
on top of the ringing in my head/ ears, they all make my heart beat really hard, not fast, but just hard. I can count my pulse very accurately just by listening. No dr seems to care and just says its the meds.
What frustrates me is even though narcotics don't take away all the nerve pain, it does make it manageable and I don't have all these crazy side effects. Dr's are more than willing to load you with meds that keep you from walking straight, feeding yourself, staying awake, or functioning, but they refuse to use pain meds at a dose you need....
Sorry I got into a rant again.
My question is, do you too struggle with the auditory side effects?
