Medical field is really irritating !!!!!

I got a phone call a while ago from the neuro's office. She said he was not going to be there tomorrow, something about a surgery and she needed to reschedule my appt. Well, I got a little perturbed cause I've already waited a month to see this doctor. She proceeds to say she could get me in next Thursday. I asked if he couldn't see me on Friday or even Monday. Her answer was no, she could do next Thursday @ 1:30, would that be okay? I said I guess so since I don't seem to have any choice. I was so mad when I got off, I could've bit a nail in to. He's the only one in his field in this town that I live in, so there's no competition and they can jerk you around any way they want to. I could go out of town and see one, but there's no telling how long I might have to wait on an appt.It's really aggravating!!!!

I understand what you're saying. If he is the only one around, I'm sure he has more than his share of unscheduled things come up with patients. If I understand you correctly and you haven't seen him yet, you aren't an official patient, yet. Which means you're last in line.

I've seen him before. I understand that things come up, but I don't understand why I couldn't be seen on Fri. or even Mon.

Sucks...I don't understand either, but they just can't tell you "why" sometimes. Gotta trust that it's a good enough reason and work on staying calm. You certainly don't need to create more stress for yourself--no good comes from that.

Certaiy you could ask to be rung if there's a cancellation, but then it's still about staying cool and calm.

Try some deep breathing and meditation--visualisation even. Just.....no visualizing mean things happening to the scheduling gal. *laughing*

I live in smalltown USA. So I get the "he's the only one in a 75 mile radius. Price I pay for quiet living wbere everyone knows their neighbors and their pet's name! ;-)

Keep strong, gal....it'll happen soon!

I know it is very aggravating especially since you have been waiting patiently to see him. And then to make matters worse you don't exactly have much to chose from in the immediate area.

I can tell you out of experience that once upon a time I did work for a heart surgeon. There were specific days and times that he saw "new patient's", post op visits, etc. There were also days that he did not see any patient because they were entirely devoted to surgery or other engagements that he had out of the office.

Try to relax, take a deep breathe, take a step back and know that next week will come and you will have your time with him.

Like Pam said Dr's and their practices are set up to see certain types of patients during certain day and time slots therefore seeing you on a day set up for a different one can throw the entire rhythm of the day off. Seeing follow-up patients take possibly 15 minute slots and if they were to throw in a new patient to a 15 minute slot either the Dr will rush your appointment to prevent getting behind or he will take up 3 slots of 15 min appointments putting everyone behind and patients waiting far too long for a scheduled appointment. I'm sure you have at some time or another been one of those patients waiting an hour past your appointment time to be seen because inevitably emergencies take precedence and obviously should but it would be irritating to all to have that occur for a nonemergency and someone's convenience. I know that doesn't make your having to wait any easier but maybe more understandable.

I've thought about this quite a bit since yesterday and I've decided to just forget about this appt. I've been thinking about seeing another orthopedic dr. any way. I guess, maybe this is a good time to do that. Or maybe just take a break from all the doctors. I'm pretty tired of this thing taking over my whole life and it sure has done that. I'll have to keep seeing my GP cause he's the one that does my pain meds. and I'll get him to give me a referral for a new ortho.

where I used to live I brought my PM and his staff some of my home made pecan brittle on all the up coming holidays! I don't know if it help me get any better treatment (they were an excellent and outstanding group of people to begin with) I just did it to show my appreciation for all of them! And if it greased the wheels a bit then that was fine too! LOL
