Hi there. I am suffering from chronic pain. My story is not unusual. I somehow have injured my thoracic spine between T6 and T9. I have a herniated disc impinging on my spinal cord at T8-T9. I also have a small hydromyelia that is about
1 cm in length. In addition to this there are bone spurs between T6 thru T9. This causes severe pain every day. My muscles are also week and form huge knots in the vicinity of my injuries and all around my scapula and trapezius muscles. Anyways... I have been going to various doctors and specialists and the consensus is all the same. Avoid surgery and tolerate the pain. I started of on tramadol and flexeril but that quickly led to stronger meds like norco 10's and when those didn't work I was sent to pain management. I've since been on:
OxyContin 15 mg x2 daily
oxycodone 10 mg x4 daily
Soma 350 mg X1 daily
garbapentin 600 mg x3 daily
Ibuprofen 600 mg x2 daily
Now my PM doctor doesn't want me on so many narcotics even though they usually manage my pain well. She wants to switch me to Nucynta, not sure the strength. Wants me to think about
it before we change next month. But I haven't read anything good about
it. It sounds like it's way less effective than what I have been taking and it feels like I am starting to get resistant to it and some days it doesn't even touch my pain. Also, I've been on this regimen for the past six months. Am I going to experience any withdrawals if I suddenly change my medications? I've forgotten to take the OxyContin before and I've suffered from severe headaches because of it. Is there something else I could try instead of nucynta? I am struggling here! Oh and I'm currently in PT again for the third time hoping it helps. What do I do...
