Prayers Needed!

I am at the hospital because my dad has a collapsed lung. He went in to surgery 2 hours ago. It's not looking good.

The doctor talked to me rather than my parents. I didn't give them all the information because I wanted them to have hope.

I'm scared. Even after the surgery he will be on life support. Due to the severity.

The walls of the lungs are thin and plurasy...spelling sorry to upset and late to spell.

Leila, of course I will pray for you, your family, the doctors!

Dad was taken to ER on Friday and the ER doc put a drain tube into the lung wall, the damage that the ER doc did putting the tube through the lung wall has been repaired in surgery and the internal bleeding from that was cleaned up.. This caused internal bleeding into his chest cavity and more pain. They did surgery last night at 8pm and removed his lung from sticking to the pleurisy to prevent effusion. They also removed polyps from the right side of the lung. He is on a ventilator right now to help him breath but they are hoping to remove him today or tomorrow. He has emphysema and COPD.

He is on a ventilator still and They are hoping to take him of the ventilator today.

Funny how adrenaline affects your own pain.... Took more pain meds yesterday than normal with no relief.. But there were bigger fish to fry yesterday.

Thank you all for all of your support and prayers. I can't tell you how much I appreciated being able to check the site and get much needed support while waiting for the surgery to end and the news to come.

  Wow, Leila...babygirl, y'all have been through and back, huh?  Thank God your dad survived surgery, as it sounds touch and go.  As I said earlier, stay near him if you are allowed.  I know that ICU has rules, but talk to him and touch him softly to let him know you're there.

Bless your heart...I know the stress and fear you're in right now.  I lost my dad just days before 9/11 terror attack.  My mom is 89 (on May 1st).  I've run the gambit with her from congestive heart failure to an insulin coma.  I've fought the medical personel to treat her aggressively and bring her back from literally death's door.

It's not an easy feeling in your gut, I know.  You're right...adrenalin kicks in and we step up.  I don't know your dad's age.  However, it's always my feeling, no matter the age...If they still have the "pursuit of health and happiness"...I FIGHT like a tiger to advocate.  I know you are too.

Just remember...even we tigers need to feed and lie in the shade from time to time.  Take care of yourself and keep us posted!

Hugs to all of you xxx Stressful to say the least. My husband made me come home because I ran out of my meds and as you know as soon as you leave more happens that you feel you should be there for.

Poor mom went to the hospital and discovered daddy not in the room. Freaked out! He was having a CT. Only to have him returned and look like he was blown up by a air pump and couldn't open his eyes. Freaked out again! Poor mom.

He has Subcutaneous emphysema.... as my 82 year old mother put it in her terms "He looks like the stay puff man!" next comment, "Leila! he has NO wrinkles he is so swelled up. NOT ONE!"

I did my best to explain to a very distraught upset lady that it meant there was air escaping into his body from somewhere and the Doctors were trying to figure out where. She didn't quite understand that.

I am over 2 hours away and I live near San Francisco. The traffic is so bad on a Friday that I called my Sister in Law and said that she should go over and check mom. Dad is being cared for and there are many who are watching after him but my mom is worn out. She headed over and I am now waiting to hear what the Doctor and the Surgeon (from last nights surgery) are going to do about this new condition.

I can't thank you all enough for responding and sending prayers and healing thoughts. I am very grateful!

Leila, you have a good husband! Hope you were able to get some rest and pain relief. Of course I will continue to pray for you, your parents, your family and the doctors and staff. I'm here for you, as we all are!

Leila...I hope your daddy's doing okay today.  I know it's hard to be 2 hours away, doll baby.  The thought of that amount of traffic gives me extreme anxiety.  I live in a small town (which I prefer) but we must drive 2 hours either way to Jackson or Memphis.  Either of those cities has MORE than enough traffic for me. 

It's certainly a challenge, though, as you "feel" that you need to be "there".  Your DH and cyber siblings are spot on...Leila must first take care of Leila.  I shouldn't preach what I don't practice. OOPS!

Seriously, though, perhaps you and your SIL can tag team in order to be there for your mom and daddy.  I keep y'all in my heart and prayers.

He is now moved out of ICU and is in a regular room. He is still having issues and is uncomfortable but this is better than the critical situation we were facing earlier.
