Hi guys, I was hit at a stop light in the rear and pushed into the car in front of me on Thursday. I am sore from the accident and it has sent me into a major fibro flare. It really stinks that some idiots don't know how to drive!! When I got out of the car he said I'm sorry Im in a hurry trying to make it to work by 4!!!! I told him he was going to be late now!! Sorry for the rant just needed to vent!!!

So sorry, Betsy!

Make sure to get seen by a doctor. That soreness can progress into something worse, and that "fibro flare" may not be just fibro! You'll have no recourse against that driver if you delay. Also, see a lawyer right away.

I've got a bad knee from being hit which seemed just bruised at first, but there was some cartilage knocked loose which needed surgery many months later and may need it again now, after 5 years. I still have money left from insurance to cover it.

Oh good grief.... Sometimes people drive me bonkers. I'm glad I'm an alien. LOL

Make sure you get checked out! Even if you think you're 'okay' today those accidents can cause injury that sneak up on you. I'm sooooo sorry you were the 'oreo filling' in that fender bender.

Some insurances won't cover it if you are not seen within 14 days of injury. Have it checked out just in case.

  shakehead Hey Mom2...Sorry to hear this, for many reasons.  Good advice above, as you should get yourself checked out.  I don't know the specifics of the accident, whether you were "tapped" on your bumper or "slammed" through the windshield.  Either way...make sure your spine is unharmed. Soreness and ROM issues are to be expected for a couple of days.  Lifelong issues could result from whiplash. 

In 2004, I was headed to pick up marshmallows for s'mores at our planned bonfire.  I had loaded 6 little hanging lanterns (oil) along with other supplies in my Jeep GCL.  I approached the main redlight in my little town.  I'd no sooner stopped behind 2 cars, until BAM...a little Toyota had come over the hill and couldn't stop in time.  It was a simple fender bender...aw shucks...just needed to exchange insurance info.  She pulled into an adjacent parking lot, seemingly turning around to leave the scene.  I stayed put for the police to arrive from just around the corner.  Store owners/customers saw it happen and started into the street to check on me.

BOOM!!! A 16 year old girl came flying over the hill and slammed my Jeep so hard, it bent the frame.  The EMT guys could not get my door open to get me out.  I could smell the fuel inside the Jeep and was screaming to the top of my lungs that my truck going to explode!  I was going to burn to death! (No fire...just FEAR of FIRE.

I was battered and bruised...long story...re-injured previous injuries. I had removed my seatbelt and was just about to exit the truck.  I was thrown against the steering wheel, which prevented my going into the windshield. I was hurt pretty bad. 

We had excellent insurance, which paid to replace the Jeep, as it was totalled.  We had good coverage for medical bills.  However, our employer at the time demanded reimbursement for their insurance coverage from her auto carrier.  They refused, claiming I was at fault for not "clearing out of the first wreck". Yep...my fault that she was speeding through the middle of town, arguing over the cell phone with her little brother.  She came over the hill and hit me before she even applied her breaks.  I was told by her insurance lawyers that I had pre-existing injuries, therefore injury was insignificant. Yep.  I was forced to hire a lawyer to advocate for me. He got the money to reimburse employers' medical payout. He then took his what...50%  I got this Tshirt I'm wearing (maybe) and debilitating spine pain (definitely).

Yes, I had pre-existing injuries from a near fatal crash in high school (1978).  My mom, sister and I were airlifted to trauma centers, shattered like porcelain dolls.  We all survived (Thank God) after weeks in the hospital and multiple surgeries.  Apparently, that history rendered me "damaged goods" for which no compensation was required from the 2004 collision.  The lawyer I had to hire has since built a 4 story office building with his name on it.  Guess somebody should have told me he was in the pocket of the insurance GIANT.

Lesson:  Don't ever assume the guilty party will "do the right thing"...Even when the driver is the daughter of your BFF throughout your school years until separated by college.  She (the mom/childhood BFF) provided the whole story of my near death via collision during my junior year of HS. The lawyers had a feeding frenzy.  They used that information, along with my husband's prior infidelity, to bury me.

Too long and too UGLY to even recall...Most days now I wish I were on the root side of the grass.  I don't want to scare you at all.  Just BEWARE and TAKE CARE.

Just want to agree with all of the above. Get checked. Even if nothing shows now, you'll need the record if something crops up later. If you have previous injuries, you can still be compensated for exacerbation of existing injuries. Sometimes, whiplash doesn't come back to haunt you until many years later. Get a lawyer and make sure you leave the door open to come back to the 'well' if it rears it's ugly head later! I wish I had.

Thank you all so much for the good advice. I'm blessed to have not been in any other accidents so no pre-existing conditions. I have an appointment with my Dr in the am. I'll let you all know how it goes.

PS Dixie I was slammed into the car in front of me. Didn't go through windshield but phones and everything else we had in the car went flying.

Bless your heart...What a mess!?!

I hope everyone involved is without serious injury.  I'm afraid there's going to be a lot more car/truck accidents with people being so distracted.  OnStar or Sync services for an emergency were more than adequate in our vehicles.  What idiot thought "Hey, let's get behind the wheel and check GPS, phone, internet, text and take selfies" while driving a lethal weapon.

I know...I get on my soapbox...Technical gadgets have their place...But please folks, not while you're driving! mad  

Betsy, I'm glad you have no pre-existing spinal injuries, and pray you have none caused by this.  I was in a near fatal car crash in 1978, caused by a distracted driver. There were no cell phones then, of course.  I was a junior in HS.  My mom, my older sister (8 mos. pregnant) and I were critically injured when we were "T-Boned" by an older fella.  He was passing through to attend a funeral, and almost caused ours. 

We 3 were airlifted to trauma centers, battered and broken...Oh God, PLEASE...I'm right back there!  My sister spent a month in the hospital where my niece (now 37) was born.  My mom was in hospital for 11 weeks.  It was rumored that I was DOA...even to my friends and boyfriend.  I spent weeks in 16 lbs. of traction...barbaric for anyone, but especially a 17 year old who couldn't see her mom or sister.  I digress.

I have been the innocent bystander (driver) of 2 more serious collisions, which re-injured EVERYTHING.  The accident in 1984 was caused by a drunk, non-licensed driver.  He left the scene after hitting the first car, which slammed head on into me.  A tire (yep) came through the windshield of the Firebird I was driving.  It was inches from decapitating me.  I guess I was lucky, but most days I don't feel that way.

Then the 2004 crash that totalled my Jeep and my "old, worn out" body @ then only 43? smhair

To this day, my neck feels as though it will not support my head. I have herniated discs (both cervical and lumbar) from C5 to T1.  On my worst days, the grinding of BOB is unbearable.  I have a reversed curvature of my cervical spine that can only be "corrected" with rods and screws.  At least my Ortho/Neuro was honest with me. He said (in my case) the surgery would surely fail in short order.  He said I would be back in the OR within 5 years.  As recently as Fall of 2013, I was told no surgical intervention for spine..."Find a way to live with it or seek PM".

I can only blame one collision on a cell phone.  The others were just pure human error.  I guess I've earned a "SKY is FALLING" mentality.  It's getting much worse.  I just believe that gadgetry is this generation's cigarette...hot trend with deadly consequences.
