Vernita, so far I found I cannot concentrate long enough to get into reading a book - and I've always been an avid reader. I can read a short magazine article, posts here and on Facebook, etc. but that's about it. I can play backgammon on my iPhone but don't do well with my word games like Boggle and Word Jewels, or Everyword and Everyword Crossings on the Kindle. Frustrating to say the least. According to my friend Ann who went through a posterior cervical laminectomy and fusion about eight years ago this is typical - the anesthesia lingers in your system for some time after surgery and one side affect is the inability to concentrate to your normal degree.

So I watch more TV than usual, and have found some good movies on Netflix. And naps. :-)

I guess we all learn from experience. I never would of thought about the cell phone. Will use that information. Thanks Susie.
Here's hoping there's pain relief for everyone today. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms.
Nancy, yes the anesthesia does linger and just drains all the energy out of you. The medication they use to put you to sleep causes temporary amnesia, so you don't remember like the last 15 or so minutes before your surgery or the time in the recovery room. No one ever remembers answering questions in the OR, or helping to move themself over to the operating table, or being introduced to the operating team. That medication seems to wear off slowly and your brain is foggy.
I will probably do a lot of sleeping myself once I get home.
