Hi all!

I am wanting to read on my good days. I am recovering from rhabdomyolysis and as a result have agonizing nerve pain from my left calf through my left foot. The more I try to learn about the nervous system, the less I know. I have also tried searching for books on neuropathy, nerve damage, nerve pain, etc. -- but am not coming up with a good comprehensive list of options.

Looking for recommendations! And thank you in advance!

Though this book does not deal with specific medical issues such as the ones you describe you may find it helpful in dealing with your pain:

"Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster: A Guide of Mind-Body Techniques" by Peggy Huddleston.

It not only talks about before surgery, but how to deal with pain and discomfort after surgery - and pain and discomfort in general.

I found it extremely valuable in dealing with my pre-and post surgical pain through meditation and healing and relaxation methods.

I'm currently recuperating from a 7-level posterior cervical thoractic laminectomy and fusion - C3 to T2. I attribute much of how well I'm doing just shy of 6 weeks post-op to this book and the CDs that came with it. My neurosurgeon told me the operation went even better than expected - 4 hours in the OR and 4 days in the hospital, and very little pain and discomfort.

I'm just throwing this out to you as it may well help you deal easier with your pain. The mind/body connection is more powerful than most of us realize.

I actually have read several but the two my old Neurologist suggested are both pretty good.
The Neuropathy Cure by Andrew Hill
Peripheral Neuropathy by Dean Lewis (nine simple steps) is the one I read but he also has written several others.

Explain Pain has always been one of my favourites - it's by Lorimer Moseley and David Butler, a couple of Aussie pain researchers. They do have a new one out too, aimed more at pain patients than clinicians - which EP is, but is still very easy to read.

Thank you everyone! I received "The Body Electric: Electromagnetism and the Foundation of Life" by Robert O. Becker in the mail this morning. It is a surprise gift from some thoughtful friends. It looks great (and the beginning has me sold so far), so I will pre-recommend it!

CRPSpatient - Explain Pain looks great!

To everyone: the library here has been limited on ALL of your great recommendations (disappointing), but I am hoping the university library here has better options. Otherwise, I will have them all in my to buy list!
