Monday check-in

Happy 1st of June to everyone and hope all of you in Texas are well after all the rain and flooding. Gee the weather's just off the charts this year. Here in Florida we're seeing above average temperatures and lot's of rain forecasted for the first week of hurricane season but we could sure use some desperately. All ready here for the hurricane season or as ready as one can be living on the water. Speaking of which has been extremely dangerous the last week. The lifeguards rescued around 1000 ppl from the oceans dangerous rip currents between last weekend and last night. People pay NO attention to the warning flags and three drowned,174 jellyfish stings treated,and 2 shark bites in waist deep water. It will get worse before it gets better with the tropical storm season upon us.


This is check-in where we stop by on Monday and share our weekend adventures,the week aheads plans and just say hi. If you or someone you know needs extra prayers and healing thoughts this is the place to ask.

Hi, I'm brand new to this forum. It looks like a great resource! I've got my monthly visit to a new pain MD (due to a move) I'm not too thrilled with - he seems to always want to push spinal modulators. My current regimen clearly isn't working and I'm not sure I know the proper way to approach him. It's probably time for a new Dr., but it could also be my passive way of dealing with all of this pain. I'm going to write everything down and go from there, but is there anything else - a list of suggestions? Or, would that be insulting him. Thanks for this great forum, I've already learning a lot!

This is my first check in. I don't even think I do it on the fibro board (wait...do we even check in?). Anywhooooo, I am at work sweating my brains out trying to taper from Lyrica. I really wish I had never tried it. Sincerely. The only thing I found is that it helped some of my allydonia, and my heels (I haven't bothered to figure out why my heels have nerve pain..I probably should). So, ya. That's about it.

Welcome to newbies... this is a great bunch of folks who help me stay somewhat sane. ;-)

I lurk a lot, both here & fibro board.
Major pain in both wrists & dominant side greatly limit the time I peck away on my NOOK 'keyboard' (using a stylus)-
From either Carpal tunnel, fibro, shoulder & arm radiating pain. Or combination of those.

knew it was coming when the fibro fog kicked in this AM... got out of shower to discover i had neglected to rinse soap

& folks in TX for flooding.
And ditto for right here cause we also may get some flooding too.

Prayers and well wishes to all. This was my week to see my Pain Dr's PA. I actually like her ver much as a person but never has any real ideas. I read what others here go through with their PM and it's funny because mine consists on giving out meds and I have come to dread these apts as they are totally predictable.

She is considering changing my meds as she feels I have built up a tolerance to oxycodone and I do believe she is right. I really haven't taken any pain meds before this except when I had wisdom teeth out and through an IV when I had shoulder surgery and I was violently ill so I'm not sure what to do.

She does believe I have nerve entrapment and it seems to me they are afraid to try anything for fear of making matters worse for me. I dread these appointments so much, I question whether I can keep going. Time to look for someone new but not many choices here. I think I am kind of down because it was a hard decision for me to make to take pain medication and I did not consider the tolerance factor.

Not all bad. Finishing up my hummingbird garden and have lots of little birds here so I am enjoying that greatly. I have been asked to submit photos for a hummingbird calendar and that is exciting. Wishing you all a good week and thank you for listening as I just don't feel I have many places I can talk about all of this. Rufous/Linda

pitmom, those are some good choices. Mine love the Bee Balm and the Penstemon. The one thing you could think about is any kind of Salvia because mine love any variety of it. The Black and Blue is a real favorite but I do have big patches of Bee Balm.

I will have to look. I am not sure where you are living. I am in Colorado and our resident hummingbird is the Broad-tailed. So exciting to hear from another hummingbird lover. Keep me posted as to what you see. These are some of the things that keep me going. Rufous/Linda

This is the week of waiting. I had a number of tests done last week, and now it's up to the Drs to figure out the next step.

I did get the biopsy back and it came back negative-whew. But, Dr can't figure out why I'm having bleeding after being put into menopause by the Cytoxan so many years ago. Biopsy showed no active endometrial cells-who knows. There are treatments she's used in the past, but can't be done with my other issues. It is a problem, though, because I'm anemic already due to the GI issues.

I did manage, finally, to get a home health nurse who is able to access my port without butchering me. Nurse doesn't see any reason for others to be having difficulty, so I'm calling it "operator error".
Only needed a bag of fluids once this week. I am still anemic, but I've managed to stay out of iron infusion range this past week.

Pain-still having difficulty trying to control all the different types of pain and all the various areas and reasons for it.

I hope you guys have as pain free a week as possible. Those in the line of nasty weather-stay safe.

Running a day late checking in. Busy last night with bad storm in Lakeland Fl. Tree limb came down on my car. Electric lines sagging almost to the ground, not snapped, no repair yet from electric company.
PCP gave me pre-op approval today. See surgeon Thursday. A week to go surgery on the 10th.
Hope everyone is safe across the country with severe weather. Tomorrow is a better day.

Busy week this week. Had another infusion yesterday. Hopefully my last one for a while, as I am starting on my new med tomorrow. Although the docs tell me that it could take anywhere from 3 days (unlikely) to 2 mo to take effect.

Did finally connect with the office of the PM who does ketamine infusions for chronic pain, who my docs up here referred me to. Only to find out that they stopped taking my insurance a month ago! :-( Still want to get a consult with him though -- of course, that is assuming he will take my case. Not sure how much it will cost to do the infusions out of pocket, but I think I might be able to get my out of network benefits to cover some of it. So it is worth talking to him, at least.

The one good thing about being home on medical leave, is that it gives me more time to spend with my dogs and work on training. We've got a big weekend ahead. On Friday I show my 18 mo old golden in conformation for the first time (like what you see on tv when you watch the Westminster Kennel Club Show), although we are only entered her in the amateur owner/handler class, as this is new to both of us. So we won't get any points, even if we were to win. Then on Sunday, we (same dog) will be competing in dock diving for the first time. We are competing in "big air," which means that the dog runs and jumps off a dock that is 2 ft above the water, and you try to get the dog to jump as far as possible. We only started training for this a few weeks ago, but she has been jumping off the sides of backyard pools and riverbanks for the last year. Should be a lot of fun. It is just going to be a lot for both of us. And I am a bit worried about both the pain and the fatigue, because these are both all-day events. But I am going to make sure that I go prepared with extra meds and a chair to rest in while we are waiting. So hopefully I will be more or less okay.

Wish I could compete with my other dog, too. We used to do agility. But he is retired because of elbow dysplasia (he's a chronic pain patient, too!).

Welcome to HW Ms Higgins.I'm at my 3rd PMD and this one is the best I've seen.She doesn't believe in making you have back injections like my last PMD did.

And she is the 1st PMD to say "I'm going to get you out of pain' and then do it,or do her best to.

Sometimes you need to change Doctors for your well being.

My PMD appointment is tomorrow.I'm topped out at 120 mg of Morphine a day.It's starting to not cover my pain.I'm afraid if I ask for a change in medicine I might end up with less pain relief than I have now.

Hope you are getting results.
Vitamin K is necessary for blood clotting, it also binds calcium to bone and tissue. Without vitamin k, causes bleeding, weakens bones, and promotes calcification of arteries. Check out Wikipedia info.

So many struggling here....I'll pray for all of you. Keep fighting the good fight!!

No drama here--they opted to put me back on the med they were trying to take me off. The raging pain got me to agree. At least for now. I welcome the absence of horrid withdrawals I was experiencing.

And we get hummingbird wars on my patio. It's the feeders and the buddleia bushes I have planted in my big pots. I haul 'em in during the winter and haul 'em back out come spring. I swear the hummers think they own those bushes. We get the ruby throated hummers and boy are they cuter than cute!! Oh.....and butterflies like you wouldn't believe.
Snag a few of those and you're in for happy hummers.
