burning pain after pulsed radiofrequency

I had this procedure about a week ago to treat a chest neuroma of one year after a lap kidney surgery. Before that I used to get constant dull ache and irritation from my incision scar(2 inches to the right from my middle) to almost towards my side and lots of tenderness. Last friday he did pulse radiofrequency and noted I had neuroma in my scar, since then my tenderness is gone to a large extent, and my original pain has changed, now I am getting constant burning across that area and also where they did the procedure in my scar there is more pronouned pain, sometimes changing position, standing causes brief intense, sharp , pressure pain in the scar where the wire to burn nerve went. I have not noted any improvment in procedure pain so far but this is better tolerable than my original pain. But im just wondering will this go away or is this now replacrd with this burning type pain and strong pressure type ache around scar area?

This might be an allergic response going on and you should call the doctor that did this proceedure. Try ice packs and a benadryl, if the benadrly helps then this is an allergic response. report this to your doctor...

I tried that doesnt really help much, only if I take my pain medications it helps a bit for a while

Not to be snide here but we talked about how every time they re-enter a incision or scar the risk of nerve damage and entrapment and that's what this sounds like. We old hands at this CP stuff learned the hard way that sometimes the best things you can do is do nothing and this is where with chronic pain conditions you get to the point of this being as good as it gets.

If the original pain was being caused by damage to some underlying nerve then attempting to fix would be like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Nerve damage repair just isn't successful. Stirring the pot could inevitably end up causing far more issues in the end.

It's certainly looking like this may be your case and it may be time to consider concentrating on treating the pain and learning to accept it is going to be there and learn living with it. Millions of people are living with chronic pain conditions and managing a decent enough life with treating the symptoms,a cure or fix is not always possible.

I know you don't want to hear this and not one of us did but occasionally it is what it is upjo. Its still early out from your procedure so still too early to say this is your case. Time may be your best friend and after some more healing and things settle down you can see a decrease in these symptoms. Sending healing thoughts and hoping this is the case for you.

Tbh it is better than my original pain, all my painful tenderness in that nerve area is almost totally gone, also That pain was like constant irritation I always had to rub, pinch myself to feel lil better. since the procedure i havent had to do that. im like 50% better, but now in that same area its burning pain ( sometimes it settles down ) but im sore at the where they burned where neuroma was. i feel it when changing position. im just hoping its not replaced with this different pain permanantly. im seeing doctor this coming friday.

Still sounds like a reaction response that your having,. a few years back I had a burning pain type of reaction , even thought you have an appointment you should call your doctor and you might want to read your discharge instructions... keep using the ice packs even if your only get a little relief..
Maybe google the procedure you had done, I've had radiofequency ablation, but not pulsed. Hopfully your feeling better soon... could be the pulse over stimutaled your nerves and that as they heal the burning might get better, but could also be a reaction, but it is for the best that you call your doctor and see on the discharge orders if they note burning pain is common right after...
Keep those lines of communication to your doctor open...otherwise, I agree with Vickie....

The burning is gone, now its similar to previous pain in the same area but like 50-60% better, does it mean my nerve or neuroma has not completely died, and if so how long should I wait or should I try this procedure again( pulsed radiofrequency in the scar) or maybe I try to stop this nerve from the spine ( pulsed radiofrequency of dorsol root ganglion for the same nerve)?

The thing is Now I know what the problem is, Im just worried if I have central sensitization( if my brain has become used to this pain)

If I responded like 50%, does this mean its only prepheral problem or does it mean my brain is used to this pain?

A RFA procedure burns the nerve fibers. It can take a week or more for the nerves to die off after the procedure, which is likely the reason you are experiencing this burning sensation. It should subside given some time.
There is typically an increase in pain for a bit, then you should see the benefits of the rfa.

Its very good that the burning is gone, You might want to write these concerns for you doctors visit on Thursday and because of the burning pain you had it might be good to wait awhile before another procedure, but this should be another question for you to ask your doctor.

my pain is back to how it used to be. i had like 50-60% relief for a week maybe. I know I still have to wait upto a month to see if this works.

If I got like half relief does that mean my problem is still prepheral and not in my brain, or is it my brain if this procedure does not help? Reason I ask is because my next step is surgery for this neuroma, a plastic surgeon said I have 50% chance of resolving my problem and it can be done under local anesthetic but I want to know if my pain is only where Im feeling it and not if my brain is all used to feeling pain because then theres no point. Ive had it for one year and 3 months and being nerve pain its constant
