A new commercial for Aspercream with "lidocaine", this was the first I've heard of this new product and do we need a prescription for this, I was cross stitching and not paying full attention. So if you know of this please give info on it..

Haven't tried it, but you do not need a script.

Char I googled it and it took me to Amazon and there is one there with 4% lidocaine available through Amazon for $7.19 without prescription. Now they may make one with prescription strength lidocaine but 4% isn't and the higher the lidocaine strength decides prescription required or not. Looks new and interesting to see how it works. Anyone?

I spent the money and wish I hadn't. It does not have a bad smell, easy to wash off but same as rubbing regular lotion....did not touch nerve pain even after repeated applications. Might work on muscle pain though.

My Rx lidocaine jelly is only 2%. I guess that's why it doesn't do anything.

May be Alcie that's not much lidocaine strength. Just imagine what 2% of any liquid would amount to. I think sometimes ppl don't realize when they buy things like hydrocortisone cream at someplace like the Dollar tree that its not actually saving money since those off brand cheaper products contain 5% cortisone versus brand 1%. Important to read the label as this holds true for a good deal of off brand products sold at the dollar places.

Nerve pain is one of those things I think even lidocaine can't soothe unless it was a direct application to the nerve itself. Think how many times have you been under local anesthesia at the dentist and have them hit a nerve.

I use a prescription 5% lidocaine patch for post herpetic neuralgia. It's one of those things where you don't realize it's helping until you don't use it for a couple days. In other words, helpful, but subtle. I'd be surprised if the cream would have a dramatic effect except maybe on a real itchy area, but it's worth keeping in mind for me if I ever can't get the prescription kind for a while.
