I posted this topic in the fibro forum a few days ago, it seems like it would be more appropriate here.

It started on Wednesday morning when I woke up and the lower part my back was in pain. Strangest thing is, I was awake until 5 something in the morning and I was fine. And when I woke up it was only after 10. My mother and my sister think it's because the mattress I sleep on is so old. But then later on that day I start to have this excruciating pain on my sides. Sometimes on left side. Sometimes on my right side.

My mother took me to the ER the next night and I tell the doctor my symptoms and he thinks that I may have had a kidney stone. But after getting a CT scan, getting my blood work and having a urine test, they couldn't find anything specific. No kidney stones, no appendicitis, no urinary tract infection, no kind of inflammation, etc. They did give some morphine for the side pains and I haven't had any since then. As well as some prescription meds.

Those parts of my body are still sore, I figured that they'll heal eventually. But now they're interfering with my sleep. It doesn't matter which side I lay on I'll start feeling some pain. I lay on my back my back starts hurting. I lay on my side they hurt. I also get this burning sensation in my back. Has anyone else gone through something like this? If so, what did you do to resolve it? I haven't been able to even get two hours of sleep since Friday.

I don't recall. If I did it probably wasn't as irritating as what I have now.

It is possible for the paid to be stemming from your back. I have had similar feelings as you described. The effect of nerves and back issues can make different parts of your body hurt. Talk to your doctor about the possibility. Years ago when I first started experiencing issues, xrays didn't show too much but eventually I got a ct and it showed disc and other issues in my low back. You can also try ice and heat alternating on your back wear the pain is, I do about 15 minutes ice (helps reduce swelling) and then heat, which is soothing.

31 and nope. Admittedly I am a bit of a homebody. I've read that having an inactive lifestyle can cause back issues.

Well I went to the ER again a few days ago after getting another pain in my side. The doctors gave me a chest X-Ray. And that came out normal just like all the tests that were done beforehand. The doctor then brought up the possibility of me having costochondritis. Could that be what this all is? If so, how long does this usually last? I've been having these issues for over a week now and it's really driving me crazy.

It's gotten to the point where I'm googling my symptoms(bad idea I know) and I'm getting afraid that I may have some sort of that dreaded C word.(IE Pancreatic, colon)Never mind the tests all coming back normal as I mentioned before and that it's pretty rare for somebody my age to get those diseases. I also don't have any family history of those nor do smoke or drink.

One thing I noticed is that those side pains seem to come only if I move my body a certain way or if I bend down to fast.

Hi KC, first off, stop doing the Dr. Google thing. All that will produce is a ton of fear & anxiety for nothing. As we say here, Dr. Google hasn't been right yet.

Use our search feature here at the forum & type in costo & read others experiences & see if any of those match what you are going through. We do ask that you not post on those threads because there is a very good chance the original poster is no longer active here at Healing Well, and we like to keep the older threads off of the main page.

If you are in the states, careful on making too many trips to ER complaining of pain, they have the habit of labeling people as drug seeking & you sure don't want anything like that in your chart following you around. Have you gone back to your primary care dr since going to ER, if not perhaps you should & discuss what you were told in ER.

Good point. I've become a total hypochondriac lately.

I haven't seen my PCP since this all started. I'm gonna try and see if copies of my medical research records can be sent to him. I remember awhile ago when I was having another medical crisis and he stated that I was too young to have something really serious.

Have you tried putting pillows under your knees if you are lying on your back in bed? Placing a pillow under your knee if lying on your side in bed? Doing this helps keep the spine in better alignment.

How old is your 'old bed'? Generally, the 'life span' of a mattress is 10 years. If it's older than that, you may want to look into replacing it.

I just recently replaced my bed with a 'memory foam' type of mattress. I have ddd and other back issues and nothing really helps with that, so far, except facet joint injections, but I want to do what ever I can to minimize my pain and this seems to be helping.

I hope you find out what is going on and that it is resolved quickly.

I'm sorry to hear about your condition. I had pains on my back and sides but I'm not sure if it's the same with what you are experiencing. My condition was diagnosed as back spasms and if yours is like it I'm pretty sure the doctors should have been able to found that out.

Anyways what I found useful aside from the drugs were massage therapy, applying creams and ointments, and I also tried endoca hemp oil. It's a hemp based nutritional supplement that has anxiolytic and anti-inflammatory properties and it really worked reduce my back pains. The anxiolytic is normally used for anxiety, it is to calm you down and reduce anxiety. That really helped put me to a better sleep.
