Hi guys,

White Beard and pitmom were kind enough to offer bed suggestions in response to my Monday check-in post.

We had a great bed for about 10 years (firm Simmons Beautyrest) but it began to finally sag and so we tried a memory foam ( Sealy "optimum" - the firmest I could find). It took only 4 months before it terribly sagged and so we went on to a firm Stearns and Foster. Unfortunately, just a year later, it is sagging too. Note that I weight only 160lbs and my wife is about 100lbs, so hardly are these issues due to our bodies (unless we radiate weird anti-mattress particles as we sleep).

During my recent stay in Canada (through October), I slept on an extra-firm memory foam mattress that was great. Unfortunately, there were no tags on the bed from which I could glean model/manufacturer.

But our plan is to replace our King with two XL Twins (plus a bridge between them). I'm thus looking for suggestions for a SUPER FIRM memory foam that will LAST.

Call the hotel, they'll give you all the info about the beds they use. I got a Marriot bed this way.

I got my recliner that way too and why I can't help with the mattress.

Absolutely call the Hotel. They take it as a great compliment. I got my pillows this way.

With my neck issues, I usually take my pillows with if I'm staying overnight. Well, I forgot them once when we stayed at a Staybridge Suites. Miracle of miracles, I had no neck problems after sleeping on their pillows! One phone call was all it took and my gf ordered me a set of the same pillows the next day! They were more expensive than what you find in the store, but soooo worth it!

No bed should wear out as fast as yours do. I would have complained to Sealy & asked for a replacement. After that I would have done the same with Stearns & Foster. Any bed that wears out in 4 months or even 1 year is defective.

There seems to be a bit of common sense lacking here IMO.

As pitmom stated the extra expense is worth it. Vickie's vote made it unanimous. Contact the hotel.

Unfortunately, it wasn't a hotel but a corporate apartment maintained for guests. I did inquire about the bed, but couldn't get an answer (also looked at the tags, which weren't informative).

Regarding the bed, I got a free replacement with the first bed from the store. They have since gone out of business. Further, it isn't the money at issue for me. I just want a GREAT bed and have had bad experiences with what were suppose to be good products.

Well, this thread clearly got smothered by CaryF's need to tell me what I overlooked, failed to do, and that I lack common sense.

So, now venting...

CaryF I don't know why you like to police this website, but please, think more about what you are doing here and why you post as you do. All your responses to my posts seem to reflect some need on your part to show your superiority over me. I'm not your mother/father/sister/brother/husband/wife/son/daughter/neighbor/teacher/student/doctor/patient/friend/enemy/dog/cat.

I'm just a stranger to you. What I do has no bearing on your life. To you, I should be nothing. So if you again feel compelled to attack me, just don't. It may give you an ego rush, but it sullies this website by sending the message to all who read your responses -- not just me but all who come to this site for help -- that instead of getting help, being accepted and welcomed -- you might end up just getting attacked. Admins -- please bear this in mind. This is not the first time with CaryF.

1) I don't care about getting a refund for my current bed. I'm not going to spend my time finding the company's contact information, filing a request, documenting the problem, fighting for a refund, etc..
It should be "common sense" that THAT wouldn't address my need. I'm not looking for economic justice. This is not a post seeking advice for how to get a refund. All I wanted was some suggestions for a comfortable and lasting bed. Isn't it common sense that I would seek advice from others in Chronic Pain -- for they have greater stakes when buying a bed.

2) While I appreciate the suggestion to consult with the "hotel" where I stayed, a reasonable suggestions at that, I wasn't in a hotel, and have no clear route to finding the purchasing agent in Canada who bought the bed for the corporate apartment. While it would make some sense for me to pursue this route anyhow, I was told that the bed was bought earlier this year, and so while the model would be a potential candidate, I can't be sure that it would really last (my prior memory-foam bed didn't). Hence, would it not be "common sense" to still ask people on this board, for some might have had their bed for years and thus could give me information not only about comfort but also about longevity.

CaryF: Your challenge of my "common sense" turned what should have been a simple inquiry into an attack on me, on my supposed lack of "common sense." Yet, consider your own lack of common sense for thinking it appropriate to turn this into an attack on me. So, maybe in the future, give people the benefit of the doubt -- that when they post a question, it isn't a consequence of their lacking common sense.

I just wanted some simple help with bed recommendations.

Wow, really? This is not venting, its flaming IMO. Flaming is not allowed here. My opinion, however, is of no concern or consequence in this matter. I respectfully defer to the CP moderators.

CP mods, please determine what is appropriate according to HW rules and suggest a resolution. I will respect your decision.

Have you a Tempur pedic store to at least look at those beds? Might be worth a look.
I have an adjustable base and love that more than anything, I don't have a tempur pedic as they were just to hard for me and that you need to air them out for a few days, not sure this is still true but it's something you can ask the sales persons...other than that no real mattress is going to last more than ten years, and you don't filp them anymore either...
Hope you can find something you like just try them out!

There are also gel beds, coconut infused beds ect...I do have the coconut infused pillows and love it but it needs to be replaced. Also buy a black light so that when you get your bed you know it will be new without stains... give the icomfort a try, google reviews and make a desicion for you...
Hope this helps...my base is a leggitt platt base and is supposed to last 20 + years and I have it on a surge protector for added protection....let us know how the search goes...its one of the hardest things to buy...
Good luck and if you can't try a bed out, then don't buy it...

A good bed is always a delema. We just purchased a king size (we'very always had a queen) Ecocomfort Ranier mattress. Like a temper pedic but not. It is medium firm.

We bought the encasement for it so we can exchange it if we need something firmer. We have a year to decide if we want to keep it. It has helped a lot with taking pressure off my hips. Of course it has taken some time getting use to it. We had a sealy posturepedic for 11 years. Way overdue for a new one.

My husband was questioning the same thing about sagging or breaking down. We will just have to see what happens. Still looking for a good pillow.

Wish you luck on your decision. It's a big one. They are so expensive.

Wow this went south quickly! I probably was on the same track as Cary in my thinking the beds that were wearing out that fast was fishy, maybe not for the same reasons? I was wondering what could possibly cause that? Was the store selling old beds, reproductions,factory damaged and although the cost may be of no consequence to some it sure would be for those who live on fixed income and go the expense to try to help our pain. I even took it one more step further wondering if the problem could be your frame style, ambient temperature in your house, moisture, something to be causing that to occur and I would try to answer those questions ruling out some of those things before spending money on another bed to perhaps have history repeat itself.

Is that common sense or not and I guess it's who you ask. Cary stated that was her opinion maybe not everyone's. We have to keep in mind that posting displays no emotion and that these are words on paper and although you are a fluent and avid writer and have a gift for getting the points across clearly and precisely others may not be.

I write like Cary and am notorious here as well as in life for simply speaking my mind and you all know through the years how many times that's not been accepted graciously. I don't always mean things in exactly the way they come out but you can bet I won't be less than truthful with you.

Cogito she doesn't single you out she posts to all one and the same, its her style of posting and she she's known to speak her mind as I do,again some just don't appreciate that straight shooting style.

You interpret her actions or statements as trying to show superiority and I could interpret your constant reminder that your not concerned about the cost or refund or seeking financial relief as the same but I have paid attention to your posting style over the years and I know its just how you say things and that your not intentionally trying to come across as having money to burn others that don't know that may see it different.

The thread's moved on and that's what you wanted was our input. I couldn't help because I nolonger sleep in a bed but did get a recommendation for the recliner from the extended stay I used when I relocated to Florida, took a few phone calls, asking the right questions of the right people but eventually I got what I was after. I slept in that recliner for three months and I like to stick with what I know works because I don't have money to throw away as many of us here don't.

I would rather leave the comments in as a reminder to others that not everyone posts the same way, see's things in the same perspective but its yours to call and I can delete the entire thread with one touch but keep in mind the loss of good information.

My brother was having the same problem with the last 2 beds he bought then he found this company called
HAMPTON AND RHODES from Mattress Firm it's called a Hybrid Mattress half of the mattress has coils and the other half is several different types of memory foam.

FOR EXAMPLE: The KING has 960 coils Gel Foam, Memory Foam and Comfort Foam with great reviews

We ordered the Queen online and received it within 5 day's opened it up and He was sleeping on it by the next day.. I hope this helps

Vickie, I hear you on the beds wearing out is fishy, but they really are not made to last! Plain and simple you can keep the best care of a bed like we do and turn it around (not Flipping) and it will wear out...Really wish they would go back to flipping as those did last longer, but I wonder if they don't want you having a mattress for very long because of bed bugs....
The longer you have a mattress, the better chances of having bed bugs I suppose....or sometimes the longer you have a mattress the germs you have on it could possibly make you sick over time....
Just my opinion.

also, after 10years think how much dust is on that mattress, even a mattress protector only last so long!

cogito, I bought a "Bob-o-pedic" bed from Bob's discount furniture. Their version of a tempurpedic. It is very firm. They have a 60 day comfort program. If your not happy with it, you can return it (for store credit). Not a perfect scenario but at least it's something. I've had mine beyond that already and it's still firm. My daughter has one too, bought at the same time and she is much heavier than me. Our pit bulls sleep with us and they each weigh 85 lbs. In other words, the whole bed has weight on it every night and they are holding up very well so far. Some of their models have different levels of firmness, some have gel, etc. I hope you have one of these stores near you.

Also, Sleepy's stores have pillows too, not just mattresses. Worth checking out.

Hi cogito I hope some of the post on your thread here, hasn't discouraged you from continuing to be active on this forum. For now all I will say is maybe a little communication reminder is in order..... ( we all need to be more aware of what we write and say in our postings. Remember written words do not always convey what we really mean! Communication can be difficult in most any situation, and even more so in a forum setting such as this! Here on this forum we lack visual sight of the communicator and can not see his/her facial expressions or body language. Nor do we get the audio queues from hearing the tone and inflection in the communicators voice. { that right there, is allot of missing information!} So with that in mind..... is what we're saying what we really mean? and is it what we want the receiving person to hear and understand? Before hitting the "submit button", Read your posting back to yourself as if someone had written it to you. Then seriously think about it, Would you, in any way take offense to what was said? Is the meaning you want to convey really there? Is your communication "tactful"? Being "tactful" is extremely important when posting in a setting such as this! As for being on the receiving end of the communication, most or all of the previous statements apply, but in addition, PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! take each and every posting with a grain of salt!)

Cogito I wish you well in your search for a comfortable bed, it is a difficult and daunting task at best, and of course in your search you also have to take in to consideration your spouses idea of comfort, ( and since the meaning of "comfort" is so subjective, as it varies from person to person) this can make the task even more difficult! For me I like the adjustable bed, but even that is not without problems, I have found that over time allot of mattresses develop bumps, and kinks, and bulges in the creases where they are constantly folded up or down! And believe me this can make for miserable sleeping when your laying on one of them!

So......Good Luck to YOU, and I hope you can find the a bed or mattress that will work for you! (One nice thing about getting single mattress's for each of you, is...as long as they are the same thickness, (so they are level when side by side) they don't have to be the same type mattress, so each of you can get a mattress that fits your individual comfort needs!
