I was prescribed 100 cc of fentanyl patches and i was told to go for a urine test in 3 days. I was going to have a busy week so i went to do the test on the same day. I had a patch on for 8 hours only. Now i am wondering if it was enough time for the drug to be detected? Also, i took a pecoset a day before. So what can be the results?

Did the same dr that prescribed you the patch also prescribe the percocet ? If you signed a pain contract and the same dr did't prescribe both meds, chances are great that you will be dismissed from pain management and you will find it very difficult to find another dr to treat your pain, if you can find one at all.

I figured that fentanyl would come up as opiates on a simple test. Every body has a different opinion about
this but my dr told me that i should test positive for opiates. That i why i took the perc. To make sure i test positive.

Did you tell your Dr on Monday that you took the percoset the prior day?
I think it takes about
24hrs for Fentanyl to show up in urine. Once you take it regularly, it should always be found in urine.
Taking the test the same day as starting the med and having an opiate already test positive may prompt a discussion with the DR. Did the doc ask you about
previous pain meds you may have been prescribed in the past? If you said yes and brought up the percoset script
, it should be fine. If you said no, I'm honestly not sure how it will go down.
I hope this all works out for you. Let us know.

If he told you to go for the test in three days why go the first day? He obviously can read the date of the test and will question why you didn't follow directions. Second I have to question what kind of Dr would order what I am assuming your referring to as 100mcg fent patch right out the door for someone who has not been titrated up or not opiate tolerant. He may not do simple urine dip for opiate presence or may use the dip in office but the Dr's who do generally forward the urine on to a lab for more standard testing where everything in your system will be shown specific. Really hard with the new testing to trick them.

There is a specific, separate test done to check for the presence of fentanyl but the percocet will show up in the standard opiate testing.
Someone just being put on fentanyl and going for the testing a mere 8 hours later most likely will not show positive for the fentanyl metabolites.
However, the metabolites for the percocet WILL show up as oxycodone, which is not even close.
The testing done today tests for the metabolites of the drugs, so the chances of you passing a drug test using another opiate are slim to none if they use gc/ms testing or immunoassay testing.
If I am understanding you correctly, you went to a new doctor, was prescribed fentanyl patches, yet you decided to take a percocet (prescribed or not to you) the day before so you could pass a drug test?

When is your follow-up? Most Drs will bring it up then to have a discussion about
it.

Best bet? Don't try to "manage" drug test results. They're getting more and more specific and harder to affect. Just take your meds as prescribed, if they aren't adequate discuss that with you doctor. Glad things worked out for you this time.

You got lucky because they only did an apparent in office screen so far. What you not know is whether they also send out for specific level testing , and if they do, you may not be so fortunate after all.
Confirmatory testing looks at the metabolites of the medications in your system and that type of testing is often done/sent out to a lab, after the screening test is done in office.
If they did send it out, they will pick up the percocet and probably not the fentanyl since it usually requires at least 24 hours to start to reach a steady blood plasma level. Oxycodone and fentanyl are two entirely different drugs, broken down in different metabolites .
I would suggest you don't ever think about
ever doing that again.

It was not done n the office. I had to go to a lab for the test. My dr received the results via fax the following afternoon. I know I was lucky.

I'm not sure how they did that.
In house is 24hrs. Sent to a lab to find specific meds is 72hrs to a week.
It sounds like they sent it to a lab which ONLY come back as positive/negative.
To test for specifics it takes a bit longer since they have to process thru your body before showing up in your urine.(lots of pee talk here). These tests take 2 days to a week. This is why an er does a blood test so it can be read on the spot. Definitely take your meds as ordered. If you get prescribed in different classes, a specific test is often used because they care about
a positive, but will want to know for which med toakr sure none are brining diverted.
Now I need to pee after this conversation.

Yes, probably it was a positive negative test. I tested positive. My dr don't want to see me 4 another 2 months now. She is faxing my script
to the pharmacy. So all is good

Just making sure you don't end of up med-less:
A fax is fine, but for schedule II meds, you have to present the handwritten script
when you pick up the meds.
I'm glad all this is working out for you. I hope you have better days in the future.

rocckyd, if state law allows it and the drs office and the pharmacy both have approved software, Schedule II rxs can be sent eletronically under federal law.

I live in Canada. Here the dr can fax any kind of script
to a pharmacy.
