Well its Monday after a very long holiday weekend and I sincerely hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and didn't overdo it! I cooked for approximately 25 ppl family and friends of mostly my daughters husband's family since ours for the most part are in KY and my siblings are so much older they cannot travel. I do not do winter in the North anymore so don't see my family other than kids and grandkids that live here often. We had a good day even though I was exhausted beyond tired.
Annual beach side tree lighting after a day of black Friday shopping wars and onto the Turkey run Saturday at the speedway. No need to explain why yesterday was spent in bed!!
I did get a lot of shopping done though.
This is Monday check-in where we catch-up each week on how our weekends were and what the week ahead holds for appointments and procedures, surgeries and anything else you would like to share.
Welcome to the new members joining us for check-in for the first time, glad to have each of you and hoping you all are finding the support and advice helpful.
Thoughts going out to those of you in Texas with the flooding going on and those who are in the North getting hit by winter.
Hoping each of you have low pain days ahead and through the holiday season and decorating, cooking, entertaing and shopping remember to take care of yourself!

I haven't posted as much lately because my chronic PHN (post-shingles) pain is what it is, at this point. No better, no worse. My palliative care doctor has run out of ideas to try, so I'm just trying to learn to live with it.
Did have some non-painful medical excitement over the last week or two. A brain MRI showed that the asyptomatic brain mets I've had since May have finally started to grow a little, so I'm now eligible for a clinical trial I've been trying to get into. However, the trial people are
very
hard to deal with, the new medicine now has a firm FDA approval date in early March, and the series of trips to the trial 3 hrs away would be in winter now, rather than summer.
There's another, already available medicine, ceritinib, a daily pill that controls or shrinks brain mets, but it causes vomiting, diarrhea, etc. until you get an individualized regime of immodium, food, zofran, etc. worked out. The next generation medicine, alectinib, is just as good for brain mets, without the gastrointestinal side effects.
Comparing quality of life, I decided I'd rather throw up for a week than deal with the trial doctor, LOL. So I'm asking my regular oncologist to prescribe ceritinib for the next few months, then switch to the easy-to-take alectinib when the FDA approves it in March, without needing to go through the clinical trial.
My wife and I didn't do much for Thanksgiving, mostly just put up Christmas decorations. The big thing I'm thankful for is that my kind of cancer has so many options for taking care of brain mets just with a daily pill (there are even more in clinical trials coming out later).

Everything comes with a cost. The holiday display I set up outside has my back a wreck and the nerve pain shooting down from buttock to knee! Thank goodness for ice packs! Looks like another trip for epidural injections are in my future!
The display looks great though! Lot's of smiles from folks passing in their cars!
Have to try to find timers that will work with my outlets. The one underneath the trailer has a little 'door' cover and the timer I have won't fit. The outlet for the front of the house has screw on caps and the 'lip' won't let the timer plug all the way in. For now, everything remains lit 24/7. Electric company is gonna love me if I can't find timers that will work! Good thing most are l.e.d. type bulbs!
Plenty of left overs. We do ham instead of turkey so a bean and ham soup is in our future! Love all the 'all day' cooking this time of year. Warms the house and then the belly!

Hello All, we're in Texas and quite tired of rain! It ruined our annual Thanksgiving afternoon activity of walking around a local park and feeding the ducks. It's been more serious for some but seems to finally be winding down today.
I've recently had 2 weeks of a new type of pain. It started with low back pain that got really bad, the worst pain of my life for 2 days, then slowly got better using ice and anti inflammatory. I thought I was getting ok, so I did too much and it was back for another day, then slowly better again. At the worst I don't think I could have gotten in the car to go to the doctor or ER. I was so very thankful for a lift chair and a potty extension, plus my very helpful husband. I finally saw the doctor a week later and she thinks it is Sacroiliitis on the right side. I start physical therapy this week. I'm looking forward to getting educated on this-it was a new pain for me.

The grand kids had a great time decorating themselves with garland while their mom put lights on my tree.
My nurse said I will soon not get nursing care or an aide. I'm "recovering well." Maybe it's an insurance thing. I'm still suffering from post-op nausea and inability to eat, despite getting off Percocet, and I can't shower by myself because I get dizzy and have frequent vertigo and I'm weak and unstable.
I don't understand why I'm having such a hard time recovering this time.

James wishing you luck with the meds. PM I get aggravated trying to tie in all the connections and plugs out there but wouldn't have it any other way!! We love decorating outside and my kids grew up with our house being a stop on the must see list at holidays....
Abilene so glad you and Susie are drying out and sorry about
your tradition getting ruined. Also keep watch on the new pain if its that bad and I certainly understand hurting too bad to even think about
laying around the ER must less getting in and out of the car.
Alcie glad your grandkids got to take part in the tree, it seems they make more mess of it at our house but they are what we do it for. As for recovery being more difficult I think the more we go through the worse it is on us, out of my six knee surgeries the last ones were far worse than the first. I just believe our bodies fight back harder from the invasion and we end up battling our own healing.
Turtle as always thanks.

Alcie, get your ears checked. I used to have a hard time because of one of the anesthesia meds dried me out too much and caused a problem with the fluid in my ears. Dizziness, nausea, etc. Hope that helps.
James, good to see you. Sorry to hear the shingles pain is still bad. Glad you are carrying on anyway!
I've obviously been spending too much time on the computer as those pains in my neck are coming back with a vengeance again. Waah! It's going to be a long winter!

I'm finally home after my knee replacement on Nov. 9th.It was a tough experience but looking back it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I'm 100% glad I had it done.I can walk with both legs now.I actually had to learn that all over.
I wish the best for all of you this Holiday Season.
Take care and God Bless.

Still here. Still getting nerve 'zaps' down the leg. So much I want to do but, afraid of making it worse.

Hi all I hope everyone had a good Turkey Day last week! I finally got over my bout with Bronchitis with the help of antibiotics and a 5 day steroid dose pack. Today I got a bad looking mole removed from my right ear, I go back in two weeks to get the stitches removed and find out the lab results of the biopsy. For such a small quick procedure it sure does hurt like crazy after the numbing injection wears off! LOL!!
Anyway got my tree put up and decorated and all my outside and most of my inside decorations put up! Now it's getting time for my Christmas shopping and making my Christmas
cookies and candy. My doctor gets a real kick out of my full white beard, and he always calls me Santy Clause! Ha Ha! or should I say Ho Ho Ho! So anyway today when I went to see him to get that mole removed, I dressed up in bright red ( shirt, hat, and jacket) and brought him and all his staff a big bag of pecan brittle that I made yesterday! Everyone seemed to enjoy it! This is my favorite time of year!
