I have severe small fiber Neuropathy and crohns disease. I was on Humira for 3yrs. and now I live with horrific pain I. My feet. I have found for me the fentanyl patch works best, due to absorption issues. I have been on 100 mcg's for over 2 yrs. and will probably have to go up on my dosage. It beats oral meds.. I guess I want some feedback.

Sorry, I don't use a patch. I tried a patch a couple of years ago, but the heat (weather) in the USA state, I live in makes the patch get more absorbed and it was getting into me too strong.
You can find info on medications on www.drugs.com, but other than that I'm not sure what your asking about...Maybe explain it in details, please...

I use the fentanyl patch for fibromyalgia among other things-- am on 62 mcg every 48 hours but have been on 75. I will probably have to go up again soon. I feel that it works for me also. It is systemic and delivers constantly so you don't have to worry about popping pills that wear off -- although I have breakthrough meds as well. If you are looking for a testimonial I can give one. It helped me turn the corner with my pain. I know others will not like it but we have to do what's right for each of us. We all deal with different levels of pain on a daily basis and just want to feel better.

I understand. I have finally excepted the meds as part of my life that's ok. Hope it continues to work for you. 🌞

I am on Palliative Care (for a severe, life-threatening illness) and also on the Fentanyl patch. I am on 75 micrograms, every 48 hours. I also have break through medication, compounded in liquid form for easier absorption.

With your history of Chron's disease, the Fentanyl patch is a wise choice. You are bypassing the intestinal tract. I had an extensive intestinal perforation due to long-standing use of corticosteroids that thinned the lining of my intestines. As a result, I have an ileostomy. My intestinal tract is not reliable for absorption. The Fentanyl patch is a wise choice for me, as well.

I did find a definitive drop off in the medication into the 3rd day of wearing the patch. The standard dosing of the Fentanyl patch is 72 hours. I now change the patch every 48 hours.

I also found the gel-based patch more effective for me than the mesh-based patch.

The Fentanyl patch gives me better and more sustained pain control than oral-liquid medication. I am grateful to be able to have prescribed access to the patch.

Hi...I spend most of my time on the Crohns board so I just saw your post. I am a long time Crohns person who was just diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy (although I have had the symptoms for years). I can understand the absorption issues. Currently, I am not taking anything internally for the pain....the option I was given had high potential for mental side effects and I was not willing to go that route. I will look into the patch more...but I have other skin issues due to other diagnoses so I don't like to put anything on my skin long term. Right now I am just putting lidocaine gel on the areas externally when the pain is at its worst. I am going to discuss gabapentin with my doc when I see him--a fellow Chronie said they were successful with that.
