Could chronic neck pain cause dizziness and nausea?

Hi Guys.

I hope you are all having as good as possible weekend? I have not posted on here for a while and was just looking for some input.

This past few months I have been suffering with bad dizziness, headaches, feeling of nausea and what seem to be a sudden drop in blood pressure. I had some bloods done which as far as I know came back fine but I have yet to discuss them with my doctor but she would of phoned me if something showed up.

I have had really bad neck pain this past few months and was wondering if it is this which is causing my symptoms?? I have also been getting pins and needles in my fingers and sometimes they go completely numb so could I have a nerve compression? I will be discussing this with my doctor but was hoping someone here might be able to offer some insight?.

Hello Hibee, so sorry to read that you have some issues going on. After reading your symptoms, especially the part of the pins & needles in the fingers, makes me sure think you have some nerve involvement. These are pretty much the classical signs & symptoms. Perhaps you need to make an appt with your PCP & get an MRI done on your neck to see whats going on. Lots of times a nerve can become irritated & medications can be given to calm it down.

Yes I am starting to think a nerve is being pinched in my neck will chat to my doctor and see what they think. It's the dizziness and nausea that's really bothering me as I can't do much at the moment.

All of your symptoms could be from a nerve, or the dizziness & nausea could be something totally different. Either way, I hope you can get some relief.

Hi Hibee there are so many things that can cause your type of symptoms, but a pinched nerve root can cause head aches and I would think possible dizziness too! I'm sure the dizziness could probably cause nausea also, one thing can snowball into another. I definitely wouldn't wait to long to see your doctor about this, maybe a consult to a neurologist would be in order, sounds like an cervical MRI would definitely find out what is going on in your neck. Anyway it is nothing to fool around with and let go, as it could get much worse! Who knows it might be something entirely different going on??? But you definitely need to find out! Don't let any of the doctors blow you off either, allot of times they like to say it is just stress, when in reality it could be something serious! I've been down that road before and it isn't pleasant!

Im actually going through this same thing right now and dizxiness and a heavy head feeling are two of my biggest complaints. Im seeing a specialist this afternoon.

I was actually at the doctors yesterday and she reckons it is my neck pain which is causing my dizziness and that I probably have a trapped nerve. Not much they can do that I haven't already tried I also have bad anxiety so I think that's also contributing to the dizziness.

I hope you get some answers let me know how you get on.

I had to have my TMJs and bones filed down due to med issues. The extreme tightness of the muscles could cause me incredible dizziness and I could not look up while in the grocery store. I even sat down in the middle of an aisle because the world would spin.

Hi Hibee Do you mean by "trapped nerve" in your neck is that she thinks that you have a nerve that is impinged in your cervical spine? If you do there is allot of things they can do for it! First off though they should do an MRI of your neck to see exactly what is going on.. If you do have a nerve root impingement, the MRI will show it and show how bad it is. They can give steroid injections to help relieve the pain, and if it is bad enough they might want to even do surgery to fix it! Physical Therapy might even be in order to help it! But there is all kinds of things that can be done to help you. If it is bothering you really bad, I would recommend going to another doctor for a second opinion, or asking your current doctor if there is any test they can run to find out exactly what is going on, i.e. and MRI or something! Anyway if it is still really bothering you allot, I'm not sure I would just let it go without trying to find out what is really causing it!

She did refer me for physiotherapy and said if things don't improve over the next few weeks to go back and see her.

I've had two cervical neck fusion's. Prior to my surgeries I was plagued with with tons of residual problems such as numbness, tingling, Cold hands, numb fingers, hands constantly going to sleep, electric shocks sensations shooting down my arms, terrible stiffness and pain, neck weakness.
It took me two full years AFTER the final surgery to feel like the surgery was worth all of it. I can honestly say 100% yes it was!

Headaches and nausea can be symptoms associated with ruptured or bulging disc's or narrowing of the spinal canal or nerve root impingement, spinal degeneration. I was lucky to not get the headaches but it is very common. Best thing to do is to get a good neurologist and get an MRI of your neck.
having a damaged neck is miserable.

Yes, that's true. Chronic neck pain cause dizziness and nausea. It further leads to headaches as well. It is really unbearable after reaching the peak point. So better to cure it as soon as possible. You can try out chiropractic care which can heal the pain a lot.

Hey, I was having extreme pain in the neck too. ONly on left side right in the hairline and the pain would shoot over the top of had. Also would hurt around left hear and jaw. I thought tooth or tmj. Dentist and endodonist says not tooth. It is nerve related. My pain dr did a block in his office of the "occidental" nerve. Not sure if spelled right. Other then being sore, it has helped a lot. This pain has been me in bed on and off for months. Hoping I get relief for a while. I also have disc problems at c7 and ddd.
