Neck/Shoulder pain - becoming unbearable

Hi all,

I am 34 male, slightly overweight. I have been having neck and shoulder pain mostly on the left side but it sometimes radiates to below my arms and even to the center of my back. At times I also felt the pain on the right hand side. I took the below xrays and the respective reports:

For some odd reason my doctor doesn't want me to do any physiotherapy and instead prescribed me anti depressants to relieve my muscle spams. I don't want to take anti depressants....any idea what I can do to help me recover without becoming dependent on these medications?

No injuries in the neck but I ve had some injuries in my wrists around 14 years ago.

How do you notice that there are spams from an xray?

Back pain has been going on for months now but it moved from lower back pain to neck pain which is more painful.

Doctor gave me DEANXIT but I am reluctant to take them as I was told that I will become dependent on them if I take them for long...

You can't see a sure cause of spasms on x-ray, as others have said. Only bones show.

Antidepressants may be prescribed for muscle spasms. I tried all the things called muscle relaxants without any relief for my muscle spasms, which are caused by spine problems. Then I was put on various benzodiazepines, which are often used as antidepressants. Diazepam works well for me, but my neurologist has me on Ativan now and it's working well. I take a half the smallest dose of Ativan (lorazepam) at night and another half if I wake up with spasms. It makes me sleepy, so I don't take it during the day.

Deanxit is not available in the US, and may be banned in some countries, according to some information online. The ingredients are listed at Drugs.com. From what I read I don't think I would take it. I would ask for something else. Can you see another doctor for a second opinion?

I am starting to accept my condition and try to live with pain. I am simply not ready to take any antidepressants. For instance this week I had two wonderful days with very few pains in my neck but suddenly yesterday I moved a bit awkwardly to look behind me and the stabbing pain in my neck resurfaced again. I am noticing that I cannot lift anything else the pain will come back...even not so heavy loads.

Again, my doctor told me that physiotherapy will make me worse...dont know what else to try. The same doctor told me that painkillers such as NAPROREX and CATAFLAM can cause stomach ulcers too!!!

With my herniated cervical disks, I experience radiating shoulder pain along with numbness & weakness. Only after nerve ablations & around the clock medicines have felt I relief!

Have you had any shoulder scans to see there's an underlying issue? I ended up having a torn labrum which required surgery--within 6 months of surgery, I felt much better! (Just read your report) Might be worth it as that's how my complete labral tear was diagnosed...

Now it only flares up when I'm having severe knots from the spasms.
