Hello Madhur, have you checked with any of the hospitals where you live to see if they have a referral department? Most of our hospitals have a referral line & also have you checked for this on the internet at any of your hospitals? As far as written reviews about drs you really cannot believe everything you read about a dr. Anyone can write a review whether they have seen the dr or not so knowing this, I would never totally rely on a review. The best thing is find a few drs that specialize in this, go in for a consult & see what you think about the dr & his staff. I trust my gut feeling on this too. If I have a bad feeling right away I am out of there.

Sorry to read that you are still struggling but hopefully you can get something done to correct the problem.

Hi Susie, thanks for your advice. I am actually trying to get opinions from about 5-6 hand surgeons here, I'll take it forward from there. I recently met a hand surgeon (who was actually a plastic surgeon who does head, neck, aesthetic, and hand surgeries) who said that plastic surgeons are the best people when it comes to handling scars. Do you think it's true? Also, I think there's a debate going on about who are better hand surgeons - plastic surgeons, or orthopaedic surgeons. What are your views on this issue? Which one did the people from this forum, who had ulnar transposition, go to for their surgery? Did they have satisfactory results?

Yes, I have seen just a few plastic surgeons do hands. But, keep in mind these were drs that were highly experienced that area. I have not, I repeat not ever seen a plastic surgeon do ulnar nerve work & I would not go there, just my thoughts personally. Unfortunately, this type of surgery never turns out 100% for the patient. I have just seen far too many people end up with different problems than what they started with. Pitmom seems to be about the only one around here that has done well & not ended up having tons of problems afterwards. I would stay with finding the very best orthopedic preferably one that specializes in your area.

Yeah, guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I credit my surgeon and my physical therapist equally. My surgeon was an orthopedic surgeon, specialized in upper extremity issues.

I'm also currently visiting hand surgeons at the biggest public hospital in India, called the AIIMS. They have super big pockets since they are fully funded by the govt. They sure have the latest MRI technology that can image nerves and post-surgical scars. I'm hoping the doctors there are just as good.

It sounds like you may have gotten lucky with this choice. I sure hope that you find another surgeon that you feel confident in for the next surgery.

When we were talking earlier about plastic surgeons, the ones that do hand surgeries here are reconstruction surgeons that are highly experienced & trained. Let us know what you decide.

I too was talking about reconstruction plastic surgeons too. I think it'll be best if both an orthopedic surgeon and a plastic surgeon are able to perform the surgery as a team.

hi i was reading this and had a few questions. I was injured at work 3 yrs ago and tore cartliage in the back of my wrist, wrist pain. had a postive variance to where my ulnar bone had to be shortened by 8mm. took a year for the bone to heal and had severe wrist pain. doc said i had cupital tunnel that was affecting the wrist and did a decompression of the elbow. never did i have elbow pain. nerve conduction came back negative before this surgery., still have extreme pain in wrist left side. numbness from ring and pinky up to elbow left side. pain meds dont help much with pain. doc says need to do ulnar transposition at the elbow. pain originates in wrist and radiates from there effecting muscles in forearm. goes up to elbow then shoulder. feels like fingers are in light socket at times. could the nerve be torn at wrist and why surgery on elbow when pain is in wrist. my husband massages my arm at times and when he hits a certain spot its like lightening.

I had ulnar nerve transposition at elbow Sept 1st, 2016. Prior to op broke left wrist, was crushed when drs just put in cast at hospital casualty. Ended with surgeon having to re-break, pin/plate but. Was not successful, had carpal tunnel surgery, bone graft hip to wrist a total of 5 ops in 5 years. Pins/plates removed but during surgery unexpected complications: 2nd carpal tunnel, cut from centre of left palm, and unexpected another bone graft (bone bank supply) 1st bone graft hip to wrist. Hand started clawing & very weak. Am left-handed & was scared would lose use of hand completely. Neurologist/x-rays showed major ulnar problems, hence emergency ulnar transposition. Had in cast from fingers to upper arm. Initially no pain but few months later pain started up again. Now I suffer from major hand/finger/fore-arm cramping despite massages, exercises etc. Becoming a big problem again. Read up can be permanent damage that I will have to live with? Baby (pinky) & ring finger pain again. Surgeon advised no injection cannot be given in left arm or BP taken either. But worried about the cramping and severe weakness of thumb in particular. Any ideas to help please?
