Not Looking Forward to Tomorrow

I really didn't want to go to another neuro after the last one. I was in tears. But what am I supposed to do? Symptoms have increased. Lasting longer. More intense. The supposed tumor on my pituitary showed on my ct but not my mri. My intestines shutdown on me yet again. Last week was pretty bad. My legs hurt so bad it was hard to get around. Gah! I just want it to stop. The pain needs to go away. I need a doc who knows what theyre doing. No more poking and prodding and imaging. I want it to be done and over with.

My rant is over. I feel a bit better.

I sure know what it's like going from Doctor to Doctor hoping that someone will find a way to help you.

Have had migraine headaches for the last 25 years so have seen lots of Doctors and of course every MD I see wants to send me to a neuro.

Would venture to say that I have seen at least 30 different ones over the years and never gotten any help from any of them and they usually do not script narcotics so that didn't help.

Ended up in Pain Management 8 years ago and that was the best thing that could have happened to me.

My MD that I had been with for 13 years retired early and sent me to Pain Management.

The MD already had me on a long acting and a short acting narcotic so the Pm doctor tweaked my dosages a bit and added a drug and it has worked really well for plus I sleep much better now.

While I am not trying to say there are not any good neuros, I am saying it may take seeing a few to find one that will be able to help you.

I always go to the websites that rate doctors and read what people say about them.

Seems like most of the time they are pretty honest. Just an idea.

Dar, sorry the appt did not go well. Do you have a return visit scheduled? If not try to get one scheduled & read below some suggestions for the next appt: Matter of fact this should be done with any dr that see's you.

Make a list of your symptoms
A list of any medications you currently take
Make a list of questions for the dr
If possible take a friend or family member with you to help listen to what the dr says
If you have had testing, such as your CT Scan & MRI, take a copy of the written reports for the dr, you cannot rely on the drs office to furnish this.

No, drs do not call & talk to the dr they refer patients to, very, very rare this day. A member of the drs staff made the referral call for the dr. I am sure whoever this person talked to said "what are we seeing this patient for". More than likely this person saw headaches & this is why the dr said, I see you have headaches.

Once the dr has evaluated you, don't be shy, ask the dr why is this happening & what do you think is wrong with me. And ask the dr what the plan is for treatment. When medications are recommended ask the dr what the medication is for & what is it suppose to do.

Patients have to go in prepared today. Never rely on another dr doing any of the above, its all up to the patient. If you will go to appts prepared you will get much more out of the visit.

Dar, the only thing I can say about going to a naturopathic is the members in many of these forums that tried this did not get any better. But worst of all it was very expensive & not covered by insurance. Their bank accounts got much lighter.

I can't say I am surprised because that is my experience with Neuros and headaches.

They have a protocol they follow and certain drugs they use and if you don't fit into their little box they don't really seem to want to deal with you.

It's almost like they aren't even hearing you when you try to explain your situation to them.

Now I know this suggestion may seem a little weird, but maybe try a D.O.?

Honestly the best Doctor I ever had was a D.O.

They are trained so that unlike some M.D.s and Neuros, they think outside of the box.

Gosh it might be worth a try and insurance covers their services.

If that doesn't work out you may have to try a Pain Management Doctor and treat your symptoms til you can find a fix.

So sorry you appointment was disappointing.

Don't give up though, you deserve to be pain free.
