Jodi,
I found part of tapering these meds is mindset and knowing what to expect. I kept reminding myself that for a time my pain levels would increase, and eventually they would level off. I used topical creams and rubs, adjusted my activity levels as needed.
I was on 240 mg of oxycontin/oxycodone per day, 45 mg of baclofen, and 16 mg of zanaflex , 600 mg of Lyrica plus anti inflammatories at the time.
I stuck to each dose reduction, every 3 days, I reduced it again, til I was done.
Honestly, other than the temporary increase in pain, within a couple weeks after being off the Oxycontin and oxycodone, baclofen, Lyrica and reducing the zanaflex, my pain levels eased, stabilized, and I was able to get a real picture of where I was.
You by ave to be determined and take each day as it comes. I also found that splitting the daily total intake of oxycodone products into three doses initially, then gradually, increasing the length of time between doses helped to continue the taper.
