G'morning everybody. well i'm hoping someone might be able to help with this one. normally i don't
have issues with restless leg syndrome but last night has to be one for the books for me.
the usual tossing and turning but this time it was actually painful. didn't matter were i tried to sleep.
i happening to grab a blanket and try the floor. that worked for a little bit but maybe out of pure
exhaustion. last i recall it was around 3:10 and was woke up around 5. tried climbing into bed then
hoping i could fall back to sleep with no luck. after almost an hour i gave up and went to strat the day best as i can.
last night in between tossing around i went looking online for anything that might help. there was
one that mentioned rubbing apple cider vinegar to your legs. all that did was leave a pleasant smell
for a little while. another was apply hot and cold compresses. so no luck there either.
is there anything my family doctor might be able to help..

Mark, if I am remembering correctly you stopped having your pain pump filled & went on oral medications. Many times when there is a reduction in pain medications people develop restless leg syndrome, not sure of this is your situation or not. Just wanted to put it out there as a possibility. And it can also come out of no where. But to answer your question, yes this should be something your regular dr can address. Many years ago I had it really bad & had to be put on medication for it. It eventually went away. It got so bad that it hit when I was sitting down, my legs would jerk so bad. I hope your dr will help you.

hi susie, your probably right. i don't normally get them but last night seemed like everyone's RLS rolled into one. well just tuesday morning around 6am i hear a single beep and since i had no electronics around,that meant only one thing.....my pump. it was the single non critical beep and it would beep once every hour.. the clinic opens at 9 so i called and explained about the beep and they got me in around 2.
when i talked to the nurse who handles the pumps,she said that we can't lower it anymore.(dosage)
so she toke out the remaining medicine which seemed like quite a bit too me and filled it with saline.
so now i'm in a great mood having graduated from needing the pump and the day went good. felt good all day. went to bed around 11. around 4am i woke up feeling just horrible. i was so restless i couldn't keep my legs still, my arms felt like they were on fire and my face was flush and very warm. sinuses going crazy and the gagging and chocking. just not good. my wife had called the drs. office and they didn't return the call til around 11 or so. they rearranged my oral meds to start taking at different times and gave me about a weeks supply of clonidine. i'm a little better today, not much of an appetite but i can take fluids so that's good. i trust that a couple days i should feel better. i sent a note to my family doctor about the RLS and hopefully something might come of that.. hoping for a better night.. take care all.

What you are describing after the medication was removed from the pump & saline was replaced is withdrawal symptoms. It is going to take several weeks for all of this to calm down. The Clonodine patch should help with some of the symptoms.

I'm sorry,I thought I had mentioned that I still have my oral meds. The nurse and the doctor had both said that it can't be withdrawns because I have been meaning off the pump medicine since last August. The clonidine is in pill form at 0.2mg once a day for 7 days..

Mark, if you were still getting some medication through your pump which you were even though it was a small amount. The saline had time to time to run through, Clonodine is used off label to help with withdrawals. Do a good search for withdrawals symptoms from an opioid & see what you read.

i did some looking way back when i first started having the dosage reduced and just a little while ago. now some of the symptomsi looked are what i started experiencing. also the time frame fits into play.
now this is what makes absolutely no sense. i am still taking morphine er 30mg twice a day and percocet 10/325mg twice a day..wouldn't that make it almost impossible to have any symptoms at all

The morphine in the pump is much, much stronger than your oral medication. Oral medication has fillers & such, whereas, the morphine in the pump is in concentrated form.

thanks susie, didn't think of that. well then, could it be safe to say i might actually going thru some withdrawals but because i have the oral meds in my system it would be milder expirances??

I have no doubt in my mind that yes you are experiencing withdrawals. Hopefully the clonodine will help. If you start having any diarrhea get something to take just in case. Stay as hydrated as you can. Hopefully in a couple of weeks this will subside.

yea me too. wll knock on my hollow head i do have to say i feel a little better then lets say wednesday. so far that was the worse. i still have no appetite what so ever. yesterday i had a bowl of soup and could only eat about half and then for lunch today tried my luck at a scrambled egg. again only about half. and that was forcing myself to eat a little of something. i am keeping myself hydrated. water mostly and the other day hd picked up some of those ensure drinks. thought that might be good for me. so my two big things is lack of appetite (and i've always been a big eater) and just very weak..

hey susie, have an update i'd like to share with you. the past few days i have been feeling pretty good. seems odd considering how short a time it has been but i finally have been able to get some sleep at night and appear to have no real symptoms at all. i want to thank you for your advice and input. i do owe a lot to the power of prayer. it really does help and i do believe that. i do find myself kinda torn at the moment and the reason behind that is. since i was put on the pain pump i have mentioned to many friends and family how wonderful the pump is in the way it can help people with most types of pain and discomfort (yes i do understand that people are different in how they respond to diff.medications) and results do vary but my twofold is that as well as it made me and the process of weaning off the morphine gave me the impression that withdrawals would be minimal or next to none. i am very fortunate that i was still taking oral meds to relive the pain in my rt. foot.(my blessing in disguise). what i do think about is what about the poor individual who only has the pain pump medicine and thinking if in time they too would be in a position to wean of whatever narcotic pain reliever their on and not have some other med to fall back on. how do i praise the pump and at the same time curse it for the many people that do suffer the horror of withdrawal.
